A family dog is being credited with saving the lives a Tahoe City couple.

The fire was reported just before midnight on May 30 at 495 Tamarack Lane. When firefighters arrived they found 60 percent of the house engulfed in flames.

“Two occupants got out alive thanks to their dog who woke them up. They spent the night at neighbors,” Dave Zaski with North Tahoe Fire Protection District told Lake Tahoe News.

The blaze was contained to the one structure, which is no longer habitable.

Meeks Bay and CalFire crews assisted with the fire.

The cause is under investigation.
