NHP targeting drivers who are speeding

Between now and June 21, Nevada’s Joining Forces law enforcement team will be cracking down on speeding drivers throughout the state.

In an effort to save lives, Nevada Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to slow down. Law enforcement agencies throughout Nevada will be working overtime through June 21 enforcing speed limit laws.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speed was a factor in almost a third of passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes in 2013. In addition, most of these crashes occurred during nighttime hours.

Aaccording to NHTSA, the consequences of driving too fast include:

·         Greater potential for loss of vehicle control

·         Reduced effectiveness of occupant protection equipment

·         Increased stopping distance when the driver perceives a danger

·         Increased degree of crash severity leading to more debilitating injuries

·         Unexpected economic and psychological implications of a speed-related crash.

Good…people drive too fast and recklessly through this town.

Hmmm, It’s NHP. Nevada. It’s already got the strictest speed enforcement in the country, as a state. And Douglas County has the strictest enforcement in NV. Be very, very careful.

    “Aaccording to NHTSA”

    *According

Glad they’re cracking down on the reckless speeding drivers. Speed kills! If you want to go fast, don’t do it on public roads.

Inattention kills. WAY more than speed.

  7. greengrass says - Posted: June 2, 2015

Speed is a result of inattention.

GG, think before you type. I turned on Centerville the other day and a VERY nice, VERY fast car whipped up behind me, passed me on the solid double yellow, and tore down the road doing at least 65. Speed limit’s 45 on that stretch.
He was NOT ‘inattentive’. Not at all. But he was speeding.

So then what’s you’re point? You seem to be criticizing me for saying speed kills.

The discussion is irrelevant. Speed limits are taxes. If the intent was to save lives you would lose your license when you speed. The intent is to raise revenue.

Its unfortunate that HWY 50 from State line to Carson City is rated the second for being a speed trap. All the different speed changes from Cave Rock to State line helps DCSD and NVP nab drivers. Its a wonder to really understand what speed limit zone you are driving in.
