A proposed expansion of Squaw Valley USA would create “significant and unavoidable” effects on scenery, noise and traffic at the mountain resort near Lake Tahoe, according to a draft Placer County report released last month.

In a project expected to take 25 years to complete, Colorado-based KSL Capital Partners LLC plans to build hotels, condos, an indoor recreational facility, shops and more at the ski resort that hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics. The expansion would add 10, 100-foot-tall buildings to the Sierra Nevada skyline.

Environmentalists say the draft environmental impact report shows the project should not be built as proposed.

This is scaled down? If you throw enough of it some will stick. As the chief says, Squaw is getting porked.

I actually see nothing wrong with this other than if I owned a house in Squaw I wouldn’t want it in my back yard either. If it is all kept at the base area, you would not see it from the highway. Squaw development has already run amok with Squaw Creek and the Village. It is our own little hidden Disneyworld tucked back up a canyon. It is not in the basin. Yes it would impact Highway 89 traffic yet perhaps with long term infrastructure that would grow with the project, better rail service to Truckee connecting the Bay/Sacramento areas and the Reno airport with perhaps a light rail connecting it to Truckee it could be a real addition.
