2 Tahoe bears trapped, released

Two bears trapped in Lake Tahoe on Friday have since been released.

A 3-year-old, 175-pound bear was caught in Stateline. He was released in the Kingsbury Grade area on July 25. The 8-year-old Incline Village bear weighing 300 pounds was relocated to the Sweetwater Mountains southeast of Gardnerville.

Nevada Division of Wildlife is expecting a busy summer and fall with bear activity as the animals search for food — which in populated areas comes in the form of trash.

That pretty much dooms the Incline bear to starvation. Tahoe black bears, haven’t had to learn to forage for at least three generations. And, the ample, year round garbage supply, has led to a birth rate that is unsupportable under natural conditions. Add to that, Tahoe bears aren’t hibernating as long as they used to. The bear relocated to Sweetwater, is most likely doomed. Downstream, I can see the Taylor creek/ Gardner Mtn bear clans having another banner year in cub births. And to think, this could have been easily solved, like Mammoth did, over 20 years ago. From 1990-96, it was a regular on the agenda before the real estate agents that ran the city council. They never had the guts, to require bearproofs, and now we are left holding the bag for some sad outcomes, very soon.

I took clients home the other night, pulled on to their street and saw a momma and cubs. People already had their trash out at 1 am and the bears were hitting every one of the spots. Wonder how those people feel knowing that they will responsible for the death of a momma bear and her babies.

Bear trapped at Stateline and relocated to Kingsbury Grade??? Kae, is this accurate?
This seems like too short of a relocation to justify the tax payer money spent, as well as do any good. Bandaids anyone?

NDOW released one for sure, and one possibly in the Northern Nevada Bear Hunt zones.

    Huh.
