Enrollment in Lake Tahoe Unified School District is on the upswing.

So far there are 3,972 students. This compares to last school year at 3,888 kids.

South Tahoe High School has seen a huge spike; going from 942 students to 1,050.

“The high school has popped from last year,” Superintendent Jim Tarwater told Lake Tahoe News. “More publicity is paying off.”

The district has made a concerted effort with the school’s website to promote the facilities that were built in the last few years as well as the programs associated with them.

There are 34 new teachers in the district, as well as new employees in other disciplines.

Isn’t the number of “new teachers” in a large part due to replacement of retirees and not outright growth?

Basically overall we have a little over 2 percent growth, but the high school saw about an 11 percent growth.
Looks like the high school has a more students, but they are with the district for like 3 years. There doesn’t look like there is sufficient growth at least this year from the grade school to move into the high school.

Will we see a lowering high school enrollment over the next 3 years?

Why would people move up here because of the school, when jobs are few and low paying?

    Is his smoke and mirrors?
