Oktoberfest — the yearly celebration of all things German — will have a taste of California at Camp Richardson Historic Resort and Marina Oct. 3-4.

This event will feature German beers brewed in the Golden State. Saint Archer Brewery of San Diego created a beer infused bratwurst exclusively for the event with its IPA. And another San Diego firm, Ballast Point’s Longfin Lager, will be on pour.

Now in its 21st year, Oktoberfest at Camp Richardson offers a little something for all ages of the family from 10am-5pm each day.

The resort is offering a free bike valet in front of the Mountain Sports Center, across from the Historic Hotel. Admission and parking is free for Oktoberfest.

Activities include German food and desserts, an owner and dog dress up contest, craft booths, face painting, pumpkin patch, balloon art, bouncy house, bungee platform, climbing wall, live music featuring the polka styling’s of the Gruber Family Band, and the beer and wine garden.

There’s also sausage eating contest. Interested contestants need to sign up by 1:30pm at the pumpkin patch on Sunday. The showdown will take place at 3pm on the main stage.

The Kiwanis of Tahoe-Sierra are having their famous Septoberfest, TOMORROW NIGHT at Montbleu. $40, for FULL German buffet, and INCLUDES beer and wine, etc. The Kiwanis use the income from this, their yearly fundraiser, for the benefit of the community’s children and the disabled.
There will be a Masskrugstemmen contest (beer stein holding contest), auctions of various sorts, etc. This is THE best deal in this area for this type of event. There is an on-line site for advance purchase of tickets, but there are only about 250 total being sold…otherwise, you can purchase at Montbleu, tomorrow evening. Event starts at 6pm, and early birds get steins.
I will be supervising the stein-holding contest, and, there will be some ‘interesting’ live auctions, besides innumerable silent types. Being auctioned-off is a wheelbarrow (the LARGE wheelbarrow size) full of Quality wine; and, a Sidecar ride TOUR and LUNCH! The Kiwanis of Tahoe Sierra are one of OUR OWN TRULY HELPFUL ORGANIZATIONS, ENTIRELY VOLUNTEER OPERATED, LOCAL TOO. Get there early, get your stein, and you can, around 7:15 pm or so, see yours truly act like an idiot, trying to keep control over up to 10 contestants holding steins that weigh about 5 pounds, when filled. A really FUN evening is in store for you. Bring your appetite.
