Christmas Valley controlled burns to last for weeks

image_pdfimage_print

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin prescribed fire operations this weekend in Christmas Valley.

Operations may take place near Grass Lake Road off Highway 89 beginning today and may continue for the next several weeks as conditions allow.

Smoke from prescribed fire operations is normal and may continue for several days after an ignition depending on the project size and environmental conditions.

Before prescribed fire operations are conducted, agencies post road signs around areas affected by prescribed fire, send email notifications and update the local fire information line at 530.543.2816.

If they’re burning near Grass Lake Road then it’s the Upper Lake Valley. Christmas Valley is a housing development paralleling Hwy 89 where the streets have holiday names. It’s a small part of the greater Valley – where you can still find the high water mark features from thousands of years ago- up on the Valley’s rock walls.
There are reasons to keep our geographic and historic names of places- because they tell us something about where we live.

I thought all burning was suspended. Why do they get to and we not? Typical.

Because they are the US Forest Service and we’re not. Jeez the things you whine about.

Yes, and their controlled burns NEVER get out of control.

Yes Bat Brain I’m pointing my finger at the USFS. You REALLY need to come up with some other response. I have seen you many a time “point fingers” yet you bash the rest of us. I POINT out the word “Hypocrite” to you. Look it up and see your pic.

One more fire being started by USFS. Stay inside if you have respiritory problems if the smoke comes this way.
You know USFS logic. Burn it down before it catches fire and cut the trees to make for a ” healthier forest”. Nothing like a Healthy forest when you continue to cut the trees!!! Lots of prison inmates putting out a USFS fire. I’m glad the inmates are putting out the state set fires.
    What could possibly go wrong?
    Take care, OLS

Yes, and how many private property burns have gotten out of controll. Hummmm, I recall ray nutting had several privare property burns become out of his controll requireing response from cal fire. He set them illigally on his property and, oops, sorry. But he is probably one of kitty litters heros so that doesn’t count…selective memory, and the king fire, remember last years big fire? Set by some hill billy who wanted to …, well we really dont know what his point was except to be an arsonist…

Isee, I never knew about the high water marks you speak of. Can you indicate where those are?

  11. Isee says - Posted: October 18, 2015

Atomic- I’d love to tell/show you. How can I contact you?

  12. Atomic says - Posted: October 18, 2015

Isee, maybe email the descriptions/directions to the administrator, Kae, and she can forward it on to me. Thank you, love the local history.

  13. Isee says - Posted: October 18, 2015

Atomic- Sorry but I’m protective of the info. I can’t give directions to a place nobody else could find anyway- unless they stumbled upon it. Let’s go for a walk.
I also love local history and am a wealth of useless knowledge about our area. Useless but very interesting to the history/geography nerds like me. I’m out for a couple hours. Will check back later.

No worries, have Kae forward me your info and I’ll get ahold of you.
