Experts: Climate change-wildfire link unsupported

By Paige St. John, Los Angeles Times

The ash of the Rocky Fire was still hot when Gov. Jerry Brown strode to a bank of television cameras beside a blackened ridge and, flanked by firefighters, delivered a battle cry against climate change.

The wilderness fire was “a real wake-up call” to reduce the carbon pollution “that is in many respects driving all of this,” he said.

Brown had political reasons for his declaration.

He had just challenged Republican presidential candidates to state their agendas on global warming. He was embroiled in a fight with the oil industry over legislation to slash gasoline use in California. And he is seeking to make a mark on international negotiations on climate change that culminate in Paris in December.

But scientists who study climate change and fire behavior say their work does not show a link between this year’s wildfires and global warming, or support Brown’s assertion that fires are now unpredictable and unprecedented. There is not enough evidence, they say.

In my 44 years on this planet as a long time liberal I have learned some very important lessons from the Earth. We are nothin but dust in the wind brutha. In this study they site ‘not enough evidence’. Sounds like an infamous theory I know of. But I digress .

As an ‘old’ school teacher, much, much older than 44!:)
I used to encourage my students to read the newspaper.

    Not so much anymore:(

Cite, site, sight are called homophobes. Check it out.

It seems that ‘we’ do have an editor at the helm. I would comment however, that had Blu walked past with toilet paper on his/her shoe.

As discomforting as it is to point it out, I prefer that to pointing and snickering behind their back, letting them carry on blissfully unaware while garnering sneers.

Robin…I think you may have meant homophone, though I must admit most homophobes sound the same.

LOL…Hmmm, you’re right on both counts..I will plead guilty…LOL TYPO:)

I do plenty of typos…seems the older I get the wider my fingers become, and the more questionable my eyesight.

    Cheers.

Hmmmm, good catch. I reread the comment a few times wondering why something didnt seem right. Sometimes the keyboard knows ahead of time what we really want to say…..the ghost in the machine…

Anyone interested in what homophobes are all about can go here-
    http://www.rightwingwatch.org
Because of their willful ignorance they don’t believe in climate change either

Note: the letters n and b are NEXT to each other on the keyboard, hence a plausible TYPO.

FYI: I do know the difference between HOMOPHOBES…people with a total aversion to homosexuals…
homophones…words spelled differently but sound alike.

Apologies to anyone that has to read to this crap!:(

I think you all missed the intentional usage of ‘site’ in this context over ‘cite’. My apologies, I have an east coast education I sometimes forget some of you are playing catch up.

” delivered a battle cry against climate change”. That’s hilarious. Better find another planet you senile goat. Mother earth is in a cycle change just like 10,000 yrs ago…..and before that.
Maybe he should get a big net and wrap it around El Nino in the ocean. We have about as much luck with that as we do stopping the earths natural cycles.

I agree that humans have put too much crap into the air but that is not causing the climate change.

Well you have problems with concepts like ‘minority’ so we don’t expect you to be much use in this discussion. Thanks for stopping by though. Gave it the ol grade school try right.

  14. Kits Carson says - Posted: October 20, 2015

billy goat: You are a pathetic race baiting idiot. Nothing more.

  15. billy the mountain says - Posted: October 20, 2015

I was referring to your (in)ability to describe data in general but OK. There is a box of fruit with 10 pieces. 7 pears, 2 apples, 1 tomato. In an earlier comment you used the word minority to describe a similar ratio to this example of pears/fruit.
Master the basic skills before you move on to word problem. There are two trains: x traveling 50mph and y traveling 70 km/h. Nevermind. We don’t care which one you choose just get on one and go away.

Bluewire…you’re not the only one who received their education elsewhere, and someone could just as easily sleep through class at Harvard as at The New Jersey School of Technology. For all I know your East Coast education could’ve occurred in Allentown.
I still don’t understand the reference to intentionally using ‘site’ in the context you claim to have used it in, referencing ‘cite’. Please deign to educate us poor dumb yokels, so our sight may be as keen as yours.
