Poll: Most Americans unhappy at work

By Herb Scribner, Deseret News

Chances are you’re unhappy with your job.

A report from Gallup found that 70 percent of Americans report feeling unhappy, uninspired and less engaged in their job. This has led American workers to be less productive, costing the United States anywhere from $450 to $550 billion a year, the report said.

To find this, researchers sent out questionnaires to thousands of employees and asked whether they felt they were engaged or not.

Engaged workers tended to be more loyal to their companies and were “responsible for the most innovation within their organization,” according to CBS News.

Meanwhile, those who said they were less engaged also were more likely to take out their unhappiness on their co-workers by “undermining what their engaged co-workers” accomplished, according to CBS News.

Where is the comments section for Ms. Kerry’s opinion piece?

Is the public not allowed to comment on their City managers opinions and publications.

LOL Billy…I’ll bet your employer is happy about that reading at work:)

OH, on your break! Not on company time? I’m not trying to be a snot, just pointing out that certain situations are purely personally gratuitous and not so informative.

Right now most Americans are generally unhappy with the employment situation.

    Robin,
The Admin for this site says no comments about Kerry’s piece because of all the bullies who comment on this site.
Don’t you just love it when a supposed “news” organization sets its own agenda. I think it’s time to go back to the Trib for my local news.
    Way to be strong Kae!
(This comment will never see the light of day. Censorship is the literary equivalent of “I’m taking my ball and going home.”

Bullying is not a unitary phenomenon.

Until Ms Kerry used the “C” word in her response and this paper chose to “publish” the “C” word:(

My position was soft, no longer soft:(

-City manager Nancy Kerry said the only way Connor would speak of former councilwoman Brooke Laine was to call her a c-u-n-t.-

This thread of JoAnn Connor’s “perspective” of certain female genitalia is interesting, but getting back to the article…

Some of the solutions to unhappy employees were:
    1. Hire good managers/management (listening Park/Hard Rock?)
    2. Promote fitness for workers.
    3. Encourage family time.
    4. Rewards, incentives and acknowledge successes.

    Seems reasonable to me.

    Rock,

Going straight to your point #1

It has been my experience that employee’s treat the customers the way they are being treated by their management.

from; not “illegal” but offensive to most and most know that. Nancy Kerry chose to use that in her public paper and Lake Tahoe News chose to publish it.

From from, did you have to but dashes between each of the letters because the software on this site wouldn’t let you put the word uo as it is a very offensive word.
