Care providers needed for EDC program

image_pdfimage_print

El Dorado County needs people to assist clients in the county’s In-Home Supportive Services program.

Care providers help clients stay safely in their homes by completing tasks such as cooking meals, doing laundry, shopping for groceries, running errands and/or helping with personal care services.

Applicants should have experience providing care, and have a driver’s license and reliable transportation; they must also be fingerprinted and pass a criminal background check, reference checks and other screening requirements. Applicants pay for the cost of their fingerprinting.

Hours vary and are mutually determined by the care provider and IHSS recipient.

Interested applicants may call 530.621.6287.

My point earlier.county employees PAY to be screened for their low-paying jobs to help the County meet their obligafions! What. Next? Applicants/employees can pay for utilities to work??? Or, maybe work for free? Get a grip EDC.

    Irish-

I am not certain, but I was under the impression that this is not a county employee situation….I think it is volunteer.

    Do you know different?

IHSS is a state supported program to help people stay in their homes rather than going to expensive nursing homes. The pay for the care providers is about $12 per hour but I don’t remember exactly.

The IHSS program is one of the fastest growing programs in the state budget. The workers belong to a union and recently have won overtime pay. Often the workers are relatives of the person being cared for.

IHHS employees are not volunteers, Gerald. They are paid by the County. Anyone can apply for these positions with or without experience or training, and as long as they pass the background test they can be hired. An eligible IHHS recipient has to hire, train, and discharge the worker. As for the background check fees, Wahini, IHHS is really almost just a middle man. They *are* a County agency, but the IHHS workers don’t work unless they get hired. If the County paid the bkgd check fees and the worker never gets a job, it’s a financial loss for the County. In other words, don’t apply to work for IHHS unless you know of someone who needs your services. IHHS is becoming the “uber car” of home health care. Pretty soon they’ll develop an “app” so they can match needs with service providers, and whoever gets there first gets to do the job and gets paid while everyone else drives around in circles — wasting time, gas and money.
