Fresh powder apparently isn’t the only thing hitting Lake Tahoe in December.

Ridesharing service Uber is planning a simultaneous launch on both sides of Tahoe before the end of the year, filling a key market in its Nevada and California territories.

Uber was not able to provide a specific date for the launch but it could happen as early as late this week, spokeswoman Laura Zapata told the Reno Gazette-Journal.

“We’re building supply and gearing up for it,” Zapata said by phone. “People have been asking about Tahoe, especially here in the Bay Area right now because they’re hearing that ski season is going to be awesome.”

    Good.

Stupid regulation. Since you can’t have a driver’s license in two states, drivers cannot use their time and gasoline efficiently, causing air pollution for no good reason. If a Nevada-licensed driver picks up at Lakeside Inn and drops off in Meyers, but has to drive back to Nevada to pick up another fare, it’s always a one-way trip. Stupid.

Bring on Uber. Tired of dirty cabs and drivers that are rude. Free market for rides. I hope Uber has a positive impact on people who have been drinking and chose to get a cheap ride and not drive.

Time to list some things you DON’T want to hear your Uber driver say.
    1) “Pay no attention to the sounds coming from the trunk.”
2)” Mind if I make a quick stop at my meth dealers first?”
    3) “Do you ever think about driving straight into those oncoming lights?”
    4) “Sorry about the mess. I really thought we we were gonna make it to the vet before my last customers dog gave birth.”
    5) “Do you know how to disarm a suicide vest?”
    6) “I’m still getting used to driving on this side of the road.”
    7) “If my cigar bothers you that much then just crack the window.”
    8) “Wow, didn’t think this stuff would kick in so soon!”
    9) “God talks to me you know.”
    10) ” I think we can get there faster if we just take the center lane the whole way!”

Yeah, right, Haddi. Government regs ensure that only the very best sorts ever drive cabs, or for that matter, ever do any kind of licensed work. . . yep. And only disreputable people want to do business without State interference. You betcha.

Haddi, funny list. I wouldnt use UBER if you paid me. My niece drives for UBER in LA and makes good $ but I dont really want to know about her experiences cuz it is way too risky IMHO

Lol! Nope, we wouldn’t want to learn about anything new because it might be risky! Trying new things is SCARY.
    That’s damn funny, Bats.

how does someone say they wouldn’t use it because it’s too risky and then give an example of how it’s risky for the driver? Talk about switching tracks in mid-stream?

Hmmm- no one mentioned the apparent conflict with promoting public transportation and especially Placer bringing forward a sales tax increase to help support transportation even though it’s not clear Tahoe will really benefit from a County wide initiative.
This is a real conundrum as YES- its good that jobs will be provided but it also discourages the use of public transportation. YES, I know the public bus system on both sides of the lake lack the ability to get to exact locations and has scheduling issues so hopefully the Resort Associations, Chambers and other local agencies are realizing services like UBER will be here.

Free market at work. Nature you don’t have to take Uber. Stay in a dirty cab or on a bus. No tourist is going to take a bus in Tahoe. Thise that want an alternative to both cabs and driving drunk will take Uber.

Uber will over take cabs within a year.
