9-month wait for concealed weapon permit in Placer

Counties are facing backlogs for concealed weapons permits following recent attacks in San Bernardino and Paris.

While some counties seem to be doing better than others, the soonest interview appointment in Placer County is not for nearly nine months.

Once you complete an application online, you need to request an in-person interview with a sheriff’s deputy. A look at the Placer County sheriff’s website shows the earliest available date is Aug. 30.

How convenient . . . and, of course, political expediency never occurs to an elected Sheriff.

Last week one of the Reno channels interviewed a responsible appearing Nevada resident who carries a nice looking concealable 9mm or .380 – I couldn’t quite tell – and has the backing of his Nevada CCW. He explained that he doesn’t hold a California CCW (the reporter didn’t belabor the obvious by asking why?) but he explained, with a look of resignation to foolishness, that he continues to carry when he’s in California. Somewhat confirming my suspicion that the most predictable result of foolish gun laws is simply an increase in crime – albeit, committed by a better class of felon.

For reasons that have little to do with gun control but a lot to do with politics, I thoroughly dislike the NRA. But their prediction that outlawing guns does not reduce the number of guns but simply increases the number of criminals is right on. In politics as well as real life, foolishness always eventually has a price.

The 2nd Amendment is many law abiding people’s CCW. It is that simple. People in this country, who are law abiding have a legal right to defend themselves, and many states have open and concealed carry laws that law abiding citizens have the right to utilize. It is that simple. Leftist laws, making criminals out of the law abiding gun owners, is a real problem and the state of California is a good example of leftist lunacy where only the criminals are not worried about gun laws. Then add the importation of Middle East fake “refugees” by the thousands under Barry Hussein over 600k new Muslims are been brought in with no ability to conduct serious background checks. THIS is the problem. If not a reason for impeachment.

Copper; I had a CCW in El Dorado County for 16 years. Then I moved into SLT city limits. Like a law abiding citizen (I had never pulled my gun in those 16 years) I let them know the address change.
Here the fun started. Oh, we can’t issue anymore now that you’re in city police jurisdiction. Don’t want to step on any toes. But at that time SLT did NOT issue permits, unless you were connected in some way. So, after much frustration, I spoke to a policeman I knew. His advice? He said 1) if you feel like you want to carry, and get caught, 1st offense is only a misdemeanor and 2) when’s the last time anybody actually searched you??
    That’s when I became a criminal.
    Stupid laws create crime.

Like the person Copper mentioned, I too have a NV CCW & have for years. And yes, I did carry illegally when I went to work in CA. Why? Because a psychiatrist had warned me my ex-husband was both homicidal & suicidal. When I went to the City of SLT to ask them to honor the permit under the circumstances, they flatly refused. I was told to call the PD if he showed up at my office. What a joke! If he’d shown up, it was already too late. A couple of the officers I knew well also said I should protect myself, the restraining order wasn’t worth the paper it was printed on & they fully supported me carrying & being a “criminal”. By the way, Nature, I’m not a “paranoid idiot”. I’m an alive great grandmother because I do carry a gun & know how to use it very well.

Ms Dog, you and I differ on practically every issue, but I’d offer a suggestion, aka “educated guess:”

By living in the City, you also live in the County and are part of the Sheriff’s constituency. Generally I prefer Police Departments, which are managed by Chiefs with several layers of political insulation from the daily erraticism of a relatively small constituency, to Sheriff’s Departments, which are managed by a Sheriff with a constant survival eye on the ballot box.

In your case I’d suggest you take a trip to Placerville and take your case directly to the EDSO throne room. With sufficient evidence, I can believe almost anything, but I’d have difficulty believing that the Sheriff of El Dorado County wants his mostly right of right wing supporters on the west slope to see him surrendering authority that is properly his to the liberal devils in the mountains. Particularly when it involves restricting firearms.

Although keep in mind that Placerville area voters see South Lake Tahoe as a revenue source that should otherwise be ignored and even suppressed, so denying a CCW to a high mountain heathen might be viewed as doing God’s work.

Copper, this all happened before the turn of the century. I no longer live in the city, and I no longer care about whether politicians approve of my being armed.
They caused me to develop this attitude, actually.
