Army colonel joins LTBMU as No. 2 in command

Joel Suenkel has been hired as deputy forest supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

The position had been vacant since February when Jeff Marsolais, who had the job, became supervisor of LTBMU.

Most recently Suenkel was a colonel in the U.S. Army serving in Germany. He is an expert in strategic planning, process improvement as well as organizational, program and operations management.

 

Suenkel graduated from the University of Wisconsin as a distinguished military graduate and earned a master’s degree in organizational behavior from the University of Phoenix.

During his career with the military, Suenkel was deployed to numerous countries including South Korea, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Japan, and Iraq. He was awarded numerous medals including the Bronze Star.

    But I think a very strange choice to make to be the #2 guy in LTBMU.

    I for one do not understand how a military strategist is going to help the issues the lake Tahoe basin faces.

    Will all the USFS employees be armed now? (With automatic weapons, like half the cops are.) Will MRAPs be part of the traffic on the USFS roads from now forward?

    I would welcome a meeting or a statement that tells us how this is supposed to work. Sounds like the beginning of a Nevada Barr, Anna Pigeon mystery.

    There aren’t even any grass grows to raid in this cold alpine environment that aren’t in rental homes.
