Gun deaths as common as traffic deaths in U.S.
By Christopher Ingraham and Carolyn Y. Johnson, Washington Post
For the first time on record, Americans are as likely to die by a gunshot as in a traffic accident, according to federal data.
Gun deaths now outnumber vehicle deaths in 21 states and the District of Columbia. That was true in just two states a decade ago, Alaska and Maryland.
The trend was driven largely by the sharp drop in the rate of traffic fatalities, a result of a series of laws and safety measures aimed at making driving safer. Gun homicide rates also have fallen in recent years, but have been offset by the rising prevalence of suicides.
Today, suicides account for roughly two out of every three gun deaths.
I was going to post something snarky, but an article about automobile safety that somehow morphs into an anti-gun story doesn’t need my help.
Supposedly a person committed suicide by firing at least 2 rounds to the head. Apparently the official government story.
At least a citizen has to pass a couple tests and receive a photo ID license to drive a car. Allowing unfettered access to any and all guns, including military grade weapons, to every Obama hating skeeter doofus is nuts. I would trust Copper with his guns, stupid states mouth-breathers not so much.
Perry, speaking from experience it only takes one shot. I believe they are talking about two out of three deaths are attributed to suicide which is a true statement. There are different forms of suicide by gun that count as two out of three, self inflicted and self inflicted by using police as a form. Neither one is pretty.
The whole gun worship culture makes me want to puke.
Cars have become safer, we have has some crazy times of mass shootings!
As of 2013 in 17 states the number of gun caused deaths surpassed the number of automobile caused deaths.
Prior to the hostile takeover in the 1970’s by Gun lawyers, manufacturers and lobbyists, the NRA was for Gun Safety. Today, the NRA counts on gun violence to sell more guns even if kids get their heads blown off. Their collective attitude to the carnage and body counts are oh well, not my problem, buy another gun.
