DCSO prepping for New Year’s Eve at Stateline

image_pdfimage_print

Expect Highway 50 in the casino corridor at Stateline to close at some point on New Year’s Eve.

Sheriff’s deputies shutdown the road as people fill the street.

Traffic will then be diverted to upper and lower Lake Parkway Drive.

Deputies of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be present in the Stateline casino-core area throughout the evening, supplemented by officers and representatives of numerous other law enforcement agencies, including Nevada Highway Patrol,  Nevada Department of Corrections,  South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and the FBI. Supporting agencies include the Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Douglas County Communications Center, Tahoe-Douglas Fire Department, Caltrans and Nevada Department of Transportation.

Incidents that will most likely result in an arrest include acts that place celebrants or law enforcement officers in jeopardy; including acts of rowdy behavior, fighting, throwing projectiles, vandalism, theft, narcotic violations, severe public drunkenness, possession of or discharge of fireworks, minors consuming or possessing alcohol, or any other act that disrupts the goal of achieving a peaceful and safe environment for all in attendance.

Glass or metal containers, regardless of contents, are prohibited in the casino core area on New Year’s Eve.

The curfew in Douglas County is midnight on Dec. 31. Anyone under the age of 18 is subject to citation for being in violation of this ordinance.

    copy/paste from
‘Field needs to be built to keep SnowGlobe’

Regarding Stateline, it’s a lot better than it used to be once law enforcement decided to go ahead and close the road and be more concerned about peoples safety than trying to control every little thing.
What kills me about Stateline is all these years we’ve had people pouring into Tahoe to celebrate New Years and for the most part Tahoe has discouraged it or downplayed it. All these tourists are coming up without any major ‘event advertising or promotion’.
So you have all these folks here to play that other city’s will spend mega money drawing them in for New Years and we waste the opportunity.
Have Stateline and South Lake Tahoe ever once considered making the most of this opportunity and do it right. Close the road early (they do it anyway) send them around the loop roads. Have music (bands) and entertainment from the beginning of the loops to the end, the whole Heavenly Village, Stateline, corridor. Make it as (family friendly) as possible to counter the younger out of control revelers. Have fireworks, and for crying out loud have a countdown clock so people know when it’s the New Year, and when it’s over and time to clear the streets. If New York and Vegas can make it work on a large scale I’m sure we could figure it out on a smaller scale.
I can’t understand why the powers that be completely ignore this opportunity that has been handed to them on a silver platter for decades and instead decide to whore themselves out and bend over backwards to promote a four day concert (and I’m being generous with that description) in the middle of what is essentially a residential area of South Lake Tahoe.
Besides the money which could be covered by doing New Years correctly near Stateline, your holding this ‘concert’ in the wrong area of town at the wrong time of year. We don’t need to promote more tourism between Christmas and New Years, especially when we have great skiing conditions.
Still waiting to see this city spend some money on decorating this town from the ‘Y’ to Stateline, it’s about as cheap of a way to promote Tahoe as a winter wonderland as it gets, and it’s reusable!

Make New Years in Tahoe fun for the whole family to celebrate in the Stateline area and reap the rewards.

Get the snow globe celebration out of the middle of a residential area of South Lake Tahoe.

Amen, Whip. The main reason is that neither the Nevada nor California folks play well with others and would still be fighting about who gets the money after decades. Also, a coordinated effort would take true leadership, which is sorely lacking in our community.

    Whip,

Great post. I remember when the DCSO would line up in riot gear shoulder to shoulder and try to push the kids out of the street.

Turning the fire hoses on them was a nice trick too.

I have always thought the ski industry should have been trying to promote during the celebration.

When Caltrans installed new street lights along Highway 50, the City paid hundreds of dollars extra per pole for each to have an electric outlet for festive or seasonal illuminated displays. Where are the holiday lights?

When did ‘we’the people see a serious audit of the City’s books?

    WHERE’S THE MONEY?

Joanne, I mean Robin Smith, give it a break. Its still the holiday season. How about something positive out of your mouth. You seriously say things that are so hateful, mistrusting, and negative that one has to wonder if you have anything positive going on in your life. Be happy, or at least try.

reza…precisely…this is the Holiday and season and the question is…

Where are the HOLIDAY lights that the ‘people’ paid for!

WHERE ARE THE LIGHTS? That is a pretty hateful mouthful
