EDC denies settlement with Santiago, Briggs

Norma Santiago and Ron Briggs, the former El Dorado County supervisors who think they should have been paid more when they were in office, could not reach an agreement this week with their former employer.

The Board of Supervisors in closed session on Jan. 26 turned down their settlement offer.
The former electeds believe they are owed cost of living adjustments and money for not taking time off as a manager, which individually could equate to nearly $100,000.
The county’s stance is that per the state Constitution a salary increase for the board must be done by ordinance. This never happened.
Santiago and Briggs have combined their cases into one, with both using the same attorney. Both left office in January 2015.
The county is being represented by outside counsel.
Judges in El Dorado County have recused themselves, so Judge Charles Wachob in Placer County has been assigned the case.
Both sides have February and March deadlines to file necessary documents, with a hearing set for May 13.
So much for the concept of public service. Hey, we all think we should be paid more. Think I’ll sue all my past employers…
These two are miserable excuses for former elected officials. Thankfully they were termed out and are now unelectable to any position. The county is correct in this case.
Based on there performance as supervisors they probably need the money NO ONE WILL HIRE THEM IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR !!!!!!!
The hearing will be held on Friday, May 13th. Nothing can possibly go wrong with that! Gosh I remember when being in public service had loftier goals than raking in as many bucks as possible before being unelectable due to term limits. But then ….. I am old. Ha.
ps Is Mittelstadt the counsel of record for the complainers? Or should I say, the plaintiffs? Too bad she’s too busy representing another breathing lump who’s trying to steal a paycheck — for two!
There are many volunteers out in the communities that research, craft comments, attend meetings, reach out to others to insure the local officials stay on topic and possibly (ha) listen to concerns FOR FREE ! The local elected officials KNOW the salary offered, and if changes are to be made it’s a public process NOT AFTER THE FACT.
It looks like Norma ate Ron.
