CARSON CITY — Despite the ongoing drought across Nevada and much of the rest of the west, state officials say wells are in good shape.

KRNV-TV reports that officials with the Nevada Division of Water Resources, Office of the State Engineer, say state wells and aquifers appear to be resilient to the ongoing drought.

State Engineers Office Deputy Administrator Rick Felling says Nevada’s aquifers are able to withstand short-term and even some longer-term droughts.

Division staff measured groundwater levels in wells throughout various hydrographic basins in the state, focusing on water levels primarily in irrigation and stock wells.

Felling says there has been a small decrease across the board due to pumping during the drought but most areas will recover.
