Work is set to begin this week on a pavement rehabilitation project on Highway 89 from Tahoe City to Alpine Meadows.

The $1.28 million project consists of grinding down the existing highway and filling it with hot mix asphalt in order to improve the ride for motorists and cyclists and to extend the life of the roadway. The project area is from a half-mile north of the Y intersection with Highway 28 in Tahoe City to just north of Alpine Meadows Road.

Teichert Construction will be working from 8pm to 6am Monday-Friday. There will be one-way traffic controls through the work zone. The contractor is allowed to start work Sunday nights. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

The work should be completed by mid-September, but weather or other unforeseen circumstances could extend it.
