With the afternoon wind picking up on the South Shore on Tuesday afternoon, firefighters made a full assault on a blaze behind Raley’s at the state line.
The fire was reported at 4:17pm Aug. 30.
Crews were able to keep it about one-tenth of an acre.
U.S. Forest Service investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze.

A second fire started and burned quite a bit up the hill. Crews worked on it all night. Very lucky that they were able to access via the dirt portion of Glenn Road. Could have been bad for the homes on upper saddle Road. Great job to the fire crews! Now we need to find out how it started. I have a feeling it’s illegal campers. There’s quite a few back in behind Raley’s. It’s a problem…
Illegal campers and CIGARETTE smokers. Everyone needs to keep an eye on these people.
A fire can wipe out the entire basin and if you see vacation home rental people tossing their ciggies off the balconies and porches SAY SOMETHING or call the fire dept!
