El Dorado County Superior Court is warning people of a scam.

Past or prospective jurors are never contacted by phone regarding failure to serve jury duty. All communication is done via U.S. mail or personal service.

No court jury staff or El Dorado County sheriff’s staff will ask past or prospective jurors to pay a fine or provide financial details including; credit card numbers, bank account(s), Social Security numbers or other personal information.

People who receive a telephone call from someone identifying himself or herself as a court employee or an employee of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office regarding a failure to appear for jury service, should call the Jury Commissioner’s office at 530.621.7469.

One must wonder about the Juror database’s apparent lack of security. How would anyone know about a citizen’s juror status, phone number, name, etc.?

Just send out large scale blanket E-mails, and hope to catch someone. That is only one of the various methods.
As for gaining phone numbers, same situation.

The Internet is a vast resource for crooks, with lists of everyone, anyone, phone numbers, E-mail addresses, mother’s maiden name, SS numbers, ETC….very cheaply available, and in some instances quite for free.

On a side note…I hope no one thinks that such as Google, Facebook, etc., provide their services without collecting YOUR data. Many other places collect data…which may be more valuable to sell, than what they seem to be selling.
