Kingsbury Grade is open.

Nevada Department of Transportation crews were able to stabilize the sink hole so motorists can use this main thoroughfare that links Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley. (There are chain or snow tires requirements in effect as of Friday night.)

“We reinforced it and then we repaved over it so it is open for safe travel,” Meg Ragonese with NDOT told Lake Tahoe News on Jan.6.

The work done since the closure went into effect 72 hours ago is temporary. More permanent repairs will be made in the spring or summer. At that time the highway is expected to be closed for two to three weeks.

The failing road is on the Carson side the highway. An eroding drainage pipe under the highway created problem.
