Workshop for school board candidates
The El Dorado County School Boards Association and the El Dorado County Office of Education will conduct a workshop for prospective school board members on June 30 at the El Dorado County Office of Education. Registration is at 4:30pm, with the workshop taking place from 5-6:30pm.
The purpose of this workshop is to inform prospective school board members of the duties and responsibilities of school board members.
According to Vicki Barber, El Dorado County superintendent of schools, local board members and superintendents from various school districts will discuss topics such as time commitment, the Brown Act, policy development, budget responsibilities, and the general role that school boards have in public education today.
The election filing dates are between July 12 and Aug. 6.
There is no charge to attend this workshop. Contact Janet Maruniak at (530)295.2217 or email jmaruniak@edcoe.org, by June 25 to register for the workshop.
I would suggest that all agencies would benefit from providing workshops before the filing dates for office. Hopefully this would weed out the candidates who, in the middle of the campaign, discover that they aren’t right for the job and drop out of the race leaving their names on the ballot.
Good idea. Folks should understand before they decide to run.
I agree, would be a great idea for any elected office, as the only people who probably know what they are getting themselves into are career politicians. The rest of us probably have little idea.
