Lake Lahontan water level creates boating hazards

SILVER SPRINGS–As water levels drop at Lake Lahontan, large rocks and sandbars become exposed and pose a danger to operators of high speed boats or those on personal watercrafts, state park officials cautioned this week.
Ranger Supervisor Tony Beuregard reported that state park staff has pulled the boat ramps out on the Silver Springs side of the reservoir because water levels are getting too low, making the ramps unusable.
“Boating is not recommended for high speed boats or personal watercrafts because there are sandbars, rocks and tree stumps that are exposed,” Beuregard added.
