Davis touts his experience for SLT council

To the community,

By now you have your voter information laying on the table trying to figure out who to vote for. It’s difficult to make a clear decision with the clutter of information. It feels familiar to me because when I was a councilman years ago, votes, especially controversial ones, weren’t always clear with the dozens of calls, emails and speakers trying to convince me their position was right.

In baseball if a player hits the ball four times out of 10, he’s a hero and gets his picture on cereal boxes. As a councilmember, there is an expectation that you should get it right 10 out of 10 times.

I was proud that we balanced the budget, and designed and built the voter directed Redevelopment project No. 1 that now provides many jobs that were not there before and over $2 million to the general fund. When the mud slide closed Highway 50 in 1997, I drove to Sacramento with the chamber exec to get help from Caltrans and the governor before other cities even thought to reach out. It saved our town $1 million per day for each day we opened sooner.

I felt good going to Washington, D.C., to represent our city in order to get grants for public works projects. However, like you, I’ve read the grand jury reports about the bickering and infighting on the council. I’ve watched the dysfunctional atmosphere eat up valuable time and energy. I’ve seen the “hole in the ground” become an embarrassment. But that project can be a great opportunity with a well-balanced council in place. That’s why when I was asked by good people to get the city going again, I said yes. After six years away, I’m asking for your vote and asking you to pick two other honest, clear thinking people to balance out the council and get our city back on track. My contribution will be my experience because I can hit the ground running and I’ll use my understanding of the very complicated budget to turn things around. I think you’ll find that I’m the “right leader at the right time”.

I personally would feel more comfortable with someone who has not been in office before, Tom. You had your shot, and now it’s time for someone else to give it their best. Speaking of budgets, you have Alice Jones over at the Tahoe Keys who understands budgets and I believe will do a fine job straightening out the city in this regards.

I may not be registered to vote here in in the city of South Lake Tahoe (although I have voted in every council race here for the last 28 years), yet I feel compelled to advocate in favor of voting for Tom Davis.
I met the Davis family while coaching a Little League minors team (the Indians) in the early 1990’s, when I coached JT (who always had the cleanest uniform I have ever seen on kid in youth sports!). It didn’t take me long to see that they were a tight family group deeply enmeshed in being part of our South Shore community.
When voting for the council this year you have three seats to fill, and in my humble opinion Tom Davis would be en excellent choice based on his knowledge of how our town’s council process works, and through his long standing working relationships with those people involved in that process.
Not one issue in this race can be dealt with overnight, and I feel our town would be best served with a person that not only can draw from personal experience, but also has the vision and stamina to see it through to completion. I believe that is what Tom Davis could bring to the revamped city council.
I also advocate voting for Angela Swanson and Claire Fortier based on what I have learned about them throughout this campaign via printed forums and the live candidate forums (don’t know either one personally, but have been aware of both for quite a few years).
Once again I will state that I am not registered to vote in this race, but have a deeply vested interest in the future of our beautiful mountain home and community!

Alice Jones, a Certified Public Accountant, has the skills to bring our City back to the plus column. We need her balance and new perspective!!!!

And don’t forget about Claire Fortier who has years of experience with the issues our town faces, yet brings fresh blood to our City Council. Claire is honest, forthright and intelligent, and will serve our council with intregrity and transparency.

    Bob,

With the problems we face as a city, we need someone who has the experience and the ability to get the job done. Tom dosen’t need on the job training, and he understands how build bridges to get the job done.
