The prosecutor in the Jaycee Lee Dugard case has filed court papers opposing an effort by The Bee and other media groups to unseal grand jury transcripts that include the kidnap victim’s testimony, saying the documents should remain sealed until a jury is sworn in for a trial.

El Dorado County District Attorney Vern Pierson, in papers filed in advance of a hearing set for next Thursday, said unsealing the transcripts would expose Dugard to revelations of “extremely private and violent acts” committed by the defendants, Phillip and Nancy Garrido.

Release of the transcripts would also “only provide the defense with more fodder” to claim that the Garridos cannot receive a fair trial, he wrote.

“The more publicity of the specific details of this case, the more likely it will be that the Defendants will seek a change of venue prior to trial,” Pierson wrote.

The records should never be released to the press. The public has no right to know what this girl and possibly her daughters were subjected to.

Freedom of press is a huge right in this country but sometimes the press needs to be reasonable. To want to profit off of this poor woman’s tragedy is dispicable and the records should never be released in my opinion. There is absolutely no reason the public needs to hear the details of what happened and it would not benefit her or her daughters.

Our society is steeped in sex, be it on TV, radio, in music or print. To sensationalize this young woman’s personal hell for the tittilation of the public is wrong on so many levels. Those records should NEVER be made public. Her healing and that of her daughters would not be able to move forward with everything out there for the world to know.

I feel we need and want freedom of privacy.

I doubt it is the lurid sex details that the newspapers are after. More likely they are trying to find the names of the other people (CA officials?) that had to have been involved in this child sex slavery thing. Good luck. Ms Dugard has already taken her money to keep quiet. She won’t be telling.
