Crusade to outlaw smoking in casinos

image_pdfimage_print

By Liz Benston, Las Vegas Sun

Paul McIntyre is smiling at the Global Gaming Expo, belying the fact that he is embedded deep behind enemy lines.

From his 10-foot-square booth sandwiched between displays of gambling tables and slot machines, McIntyre — representing the nonprofit groups Kids Involuntarily Inhaling Secondhand Smoke and Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights — is pressuring casinos nationwide to ban smoking. He is sitting at a long table covered with stacks of fact sheets about smoking and colorful brochures showing smiling casino and restaurant workers. Bookending the table are two giant posters, including a photo of a young female casino dealer.

This is the final frontier for anti-smoking advocates — the casino industry’s premier trade show, which wrapped up in Las Vegas last month — and not an entirely welcome place to be.

Few stop at the booth. Those who do usually have something to say.

“People expect to smoke and gamble when they come to Vegas,” said Joe Marth, a young man whose Arkansas company makes casino surveillance cameras. A stone’s throw away, he has been eyeing the booth all day and comes over for a closer look.

“It’s not going to happen,” he says when asked about the prospect of banning smoking in casinos.

NOW WE HAVE TO WEAR SEATBELTS OR BE FINED.

WHEN THE LAS VEGAS SUN DID A POLL ON THIS
    SEATBELTS WOULD HAVE LOST.

    NOW IT’S ALL ABOUT SMOKING.

AS LONG AS SMOKING IS LEGAL BUSINESSES THAT ALLOW SMOKING ARE BEING TOLD HOW TO
RUN THEIR BUSINESSES BY THE GOVERNMENT
WHO WILL NOT STOP THE MANUFACTURE OF CIGARETTES BECAUSE THEY MAKE ALOT OF TAX
DOLLARS FROM THE SALE OF IT.

IT IS NOT UP TO THE GOVERNMENT TO TELL US
HOW TO RUN OUR BUSINESSES OR OUR PERSONAL
    LIVES.

PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP AS THE DAY WILL
COME WHEN THE ISSUE ON TRIAL MAY AFFECT THEM AND THOSE WHO ARE BEING DENIED THEIR RIGHTS AS SMOKERS BETTER START STANDING UP FOR WHAT WE BELIEVE AND WHAT THIS COUNTRY IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT.

THERE ARE THINGS I DON’T LIKE BUT TO EACH
HIS OWN, LET’S FIGHT FOR THE FREEDOMS OUR
    FOREFATHERS FOUGHT and DIED FOR.

LAND OF FREE???? OR LAWS THAT TAKE AWAY

    OUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE??

    THINK ABOUT IT!

Smokers all get sick and then want the government to pay for their health care. Passengers without seat belts get hurt much more severely in a car crash and want the government to pay for their health care bills. People may complain about the government taking over their lives but when they get sick or injured, the first thing they ask is how they can get the government to pay for it. If you don’t want more government in your lives, then don’t ask it (us) to pay for your problems. Don’t take unemployment, disability, ssi, medicare, cmsp or medicaid (medi-CAL), education benefits or any other government program. Earn the money and pay for what you need yourself.

localgirl, a lot of DO pay for all of our own stuff and don’t get any government programs. You don’t need to be snooty about it.
I guess you didn’t hear about the case some years ago in Wyoming (or Montana, I forget) where a family was hit head on in their lane by a drunk driver passing someone. Several were killed. But because the family weren’t all wearing seatbelts, the drunk driver wasn’t held completely responsible for those deaths because of the seat belt law. That’s justice for you.

    Right on Carol.
Another issue is the junk science behind these fallacious claims of the wacko fringe and mainstream fellow travelers whose virtue and self importance gives them a right to wear a halo around their
puny heads and possible intellectual material inside.
Dosage and freguency is the watchword for
chemical intake and its posssible effects. Think about the arsenic in our water supply as as told to us by STUPD.
The amounts are so miniscle as to have no effect on humans yet eating a tablespoon or two will kill you straight away.
If humans were so fragile to the effects of chemicals life on earth would have ended eons ago.
In Tahoe we have huge amounts of pollen that we inhale every spring. Chemical analysis has detected over 30 different carcinogens in pollen and yet where are the morbidity and mortality statistics showing their effects on humans. There aren’t for the simply reason you can’t tell a tree to stop pollenating and their is not enough self serving virtue in cutting down trees to minimize pollen pollution and the tree huggers would fight to the death for their beloved trees. Paul McIntyre may think of himself as a wonderful person but in fact he is nothing more than a fascist trying to imnpose his nonsense on a once free society whose freedoms to choose are disappearing everyday.
Wake up folks before it is too late. Do you not feel the fingers of totalitarianism, communism, and fascism tightening their grip around your neck?
I’m suprised Mr. Virtuous wasn’t protesting global warming as Lake Tahoe and most of America and Europe were sweltering with 90 degree heat.
He is just a useful idiot to the forces of freedom hating bureaucrats and politicians.
