Alpen Sierra closes up shop
After 20 years near Stateline, Alpen Sierra Coffee Co. is closing up its retail operation.
Its last day is this Sunday, closing the door at 6pm.
Alpen Sierra has positioned itself as a signature South Lake Tahoe business, with a coffee roasting company based in the Carson Valley.
The economics and desire to downsize with the goal of focusing on its core product of wholesale coffee contributed to the business decision, a worker confirmed.
About 10 employees who work at the retail shop on Lake Tahoe Boulevard near the Village Center will be out of a job.

Another one bite the Dust, another open shop to sit empty.
Was a good tatse, good location, maybe it’s time like so many others to check out other spots on the planet to do business. Not all are as gloomy as South Shore.
Our community is losing an outstanding business that is a huge advocate for the environment, our town and the people who live in it. I hope for all of us that they will be able to do retail again in the future ;)
Never got around to trying it, pretty tiny parking lot, maybe that’s why? and also never heard across the board rave reviews.
It’s sad when one of your own can’t make it.
as a former restaurant owner, it can be summed up in one word, why businesses are leaving or just ending it- can you say CALIFORNIA?
The best of luck to the coffee company and the great family who owns it, in Carson Valley.
Excellent spot for a news stand. The location won’t be vacant long.
I will miss the shop, but will continue to drink the delicious coffee! Our office buys it wholesale and it is delivered to our office in south lake tahoe every 4-6 weeks. I feel spoiled by every cup! I encourage others to call and get your 5lb bags delivered!
Really hard to believe. Alpen Sierra has been a South Shore fixture for so long…
Hate to say it, but the area seems to be drying up. Would much rather travel down the hill, either way, in order to do anything other than the basic necessities.
Hopefully, someday, Lake Tahoe will reinvent itself and be a fun place to be once again. Good luck Christian!
This is SOOOO sad! We’ll miss this business big time! Best of luck with your ventures and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for your coffee at other locations.
