Pollock Pines restaurant owner released from jail
By Carlos Alcala, Sacramento Bee
Kevin Cairns, owner of Dante’s on the River, east of Pollock Pines, was released on bail Friday after three weeks in jail.
Cairns had been jailed unexpectedly on $250,000 bail at his first court appearance March 15 related to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and felony vandalism for incidents in November and February.
He was denied a bail reduction April 1 but had his bond reduced to $87,000 Friday, which he was able to post with the assistance of friends, Cairns’ wife Nancy said.
Cairns’ jailing took place after a third incident the weekend before the March 15 court date.
The El Dorado County District Attorney’s office filed amended charges that morning, although Cairns had not been arrested in that latest, nonviolent confrontation.
Cairns has argued he is only defending his property in the face of an onslaught of motorists who abuse his parking lot by vomiting or going to the bathroom there.
The restaurant is on a windy and isolated stretch of road.
Dante’s restaurant has closed to avoid further incidents, Nancy Cairns said, and her husband is pursuing a business opportunity opening 10 restaurants with an old friend.
Just can’t imagine why this place wasn’t successful…
The state should buy it and turn it into a public restroom.
How horrible that “we” have so little respect for each other! The mean, nasty people who screamed at these good people, defacated on their property, vomited in their parking lot!! WHERE is civility?? SAD they they have been driven out!
LynneBajuk-I like your comment! These are the same type of people who vacation rent next to and across from me. They are also driving me out of my home of the past 25 years! Why is this allowed?
This is very sad indeed. It is illegal to relieve oneself in public by the way. I cannot imaging a man being jailed for protecting his property from trespassers relieving themselves on it. What the hell kind of county is El Dorado anyway? The county’s loss. The Cairns are a fine family. Anyone who thinks less I will be by later to relieve myself on your property so you better not try to protect it.
Being horribly rude a belligerent (cussing at young children and their concerned parents), and calling people every disgusting name you can think of is unnecessary and unjustified. This is a prime example of terrible people with no care or concern for others. The poor people that pull over have no control over when car sickness will strike, and a quick hose off can easily take car of any “biodegradable” vomit. This husband and wife pair are obviously bad people, and bad people don’t deserve to have a successful business. Good riddance!
