The watercraft inspection and decontamination program operated by the Tahoe Resource Conservation District has a price tag this year of nearly $2 million, but most of the cost is carried by grants from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Boat inspection fees pay for about one-third of the inspection services, according to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. All currently sealed Tahoe-only boats this year will pay $30 for a full year of AIS services.

All the rates may be found by clicking on fees. This rate is for the inspection. Marinas may have an additional fee.

Our thanks to Kae and LTN for posting this brief report on watercraft inspection fees. For many local boaters, the fees this year are a reduction from last year’s.
The most important change to the program this year is the move of all inspections away from the ramps to roadside inspection stations. To help reduce wait times at all launch sites, only boats with an intact inspection seal can go to a boat launch. in addition to the four roadside inspection stations operating in the region last year, two more will be in operation to increase efficiency and convenience for boaters. High-efficiency decontamination equipment has been installed at roadside facilities as well, further reducing wait times for services on busy weekends.
