BlueGo operator wants out when contract expires in June
By Kathryn Reed
BlueGo, the South Shore bus system, is going to have a new operator this summer.
The current operator has told Tahoe Transportation District officials it will not be bidding on the route. Request for proposals are being solicited, with the closing date May 18.
TTD, which oversees the bus operation, entered into the $23,460 monthly contract with TRC Consultants last fall. The contract expires June 30.
TRC Consultants was originally hired by South Tahoe Area Transit Authority to run the buses after MV Transportation was fired by the now-bankrupt STATA board. TRC uses the name BlueGo Transit Management Inc. for its South Shore operation. The company is based in Florida.
The TTD board wants to have an operator on board so the transition is seamless. However, TTD Executive Director Carl Hasty told Lake Tahoe News if a viable operator could not be secured by the end of June “we would run it.”
New Name! Blue Gone
BLUE UP BLEW OUT
But JOHN,”WE GOT AN AIRPORT”.
Maybe JET BLUE would do it. Air port tied with public transit. Holy cow people could fly here from around the world and then have a way around town to spend all that money. No i think we would rather sit around and complain about it and do nothing seems to be the Tahoe Way. Also the noise from those jets would affect the clarity of the lake. Would also be hard to inspect them for invasive species prior to landing. Oh well nothing new
The Bus system was a very bad idea from the very beginning and has been a loser since the very start. It has cost the tax payer MILLIONS over the past 25 years, get rid of it along with the AIR PORT that was given to the City for $1 dollar by the County, boy did the County make a good deal !!! If it don[t pay for itself, get rid of it!!!
What was the $23,460 per month paying for? You can’t run a bus company on that little money, yet it says they were hired to run the buses.
