building• Owners of the Garfinkle building (former Mikasa site) are talking to South Lake Tahoe planning officials about a possible face-lift and roof on the Y eyesore. The owners are negotiating with a prospective tenant (who they won’t name until the lease is signed) to make the building suit the tenant’s needs. But right now it is just talk because the city has not received any applications.

• Squaw Valley’s Olympic Ice Pavilion has become the High Camp Roller Rink for the summer.

• Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has Lake Tahoe, Geneva and Rome on his summer itinerary.

• Naked Fish, the sushi place, has an open building permit with South Lake Tahoe to expand into the old Alpen Sierra coffee house site.

Reno’s Artown has a slew of events throughout July.

I heard rumor the new tenants were going to be DSW (shoe store). Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to buy some shoes other than whats at Bass (though I love them, just limited), Ross and KMart? But, they’d have to sell a lot of shoes to stay in town…would need another strong business to share the spot for success.

The new roof should start no later than the middle of July and it is a local company doing the roof.

Congrats to Naked Fish! Your food and service is outstanding. Looking forward to the expansion and less of a wait on busy nights!

Is TJ Max taking the whole building?
Good to see local trucks out front replacing the roof.

No and yes it is. Also all local contractors on the job doing the remodel. Look for the new front in the coming week.

While the rumor mill in town says T.J. Maxx will be opening at the Y in South Lake Tahoe, the truth is the company has not taken out any paperwork with the city. This means everyone who says the discount retailer is coming, really doesn’t know and is just spreading rumors.
While the rumors may one day prove to be true, saying them without facts to back them up doesn’t do anyone any good.
Lake Tahoe News is about reporting the truth.
When the city has information about the tenant, it will be released — after all, that is public information.
No one at the Massachusetts-based T.J. Maxx has returned LTN’s calls.

I heard a rumor Laub is buying it and turning it into a gentlemen’s club.
The largest and highest club of its kind in the world.

Yeah, I don’t really see TJ Max moving in. Don’t think we really have the population to support that store. Sure would love to see Trader Joe, though, same problem.

Kinda like to see where Don Regis and his story went about Carl Probyn when it comes to “facts” at this site lol. You are incorrect as to being a rumor rather it’s more like speculation. I based my speculation on conversations with the various agencys that whomever is taking over must deal with as well as council persons as most are willing to talk to me without being revealed as has happened in the past with other information sites. Contrary to belief I do not drop dime on those who wish to remain anonymous and I check out myself as well. However, TJmax is pure speculation but time will tell.

Doesn’t TJ Max sell to a younger clientel? How will that help the entire town?

Trader Joe’s would be amazing there. Been wishing for them to come to Tahoe for many years. There isn’t enough people for them to open a store here though according to the cashiers at the one in Carson.

Off the main topic but if I understand it correctly the Regis article was posted under “opinion” which means they were an opinion and not facts so I went back and reread the article and (quote) “Of significance is the fact that I interviewed Terry Probyn first without her husband present. In that interview she made statements I believe pointed to her husband’s possible complicity in Jaycee’s disappearance”. So is the article a factual article based on opinion? Just trying to separate fact, rumor and speculation when I print something. Just want to make sure, as I am high profile and can be contacted directly and not be anonymous in my statements, that I am on the same page when it comes to posting factual rumors based on speculation. Thanks admin. Ps. I am glad you witnessed the goat rope tonight lol as I think TD is going to delay this as long as possible.
