Snippets about Lake Tahoe
• Brian Uhler is the police and fire chief of South Lake Tahoe. He was at the Aug. 2 City Council meeting reading up on fire law. Lorenzo Gigliotti, whose official leave date is Sept. 1, is using his vacation time.
• Homeland Security officials are on the South Shore this week checking on legal status of employees, making sure employers have I-9s on file.
• Barton Home Health and Hospice has moved its office in Minden to 1503 Highway 395 in Gardnerville. The phone number is the same.
• Carson City District Judge James Wilson this week said Nevada’s bear hunt can go on. The season is Aug. 20-Dec. 31.
• A Placerville woman wed her Army husband who is stationed in Afghanistan via telephone.
Good luck to Chief Uler, but unfortunately the poor guy is doomed for failure. The City has tried this in the past and it simply did not work. Chief Uhler is a Police Chief, and he will always be a Police Chief first and a Fire Chief second. The fire department and their customers will suffer the most. The City Manager and the Council are obviously brain dead, why can’t our leadership learn from our past? I’m sorry maybe it was their parents fault…
Glad to learn these two positions have been combined. It worked great in the past and it is refreshing to see the City multi-tasking its employees including those at the highly paid upper management levels.
Steve, Get your head out of the sand, where have you been? They tried it before and it was a failure. and as for those highly paid upper management levels, they should start with all Assistance to the Dept Heads and let them go and cut the City Mgr’s Salary from over $200,000 with benefits to what he is worth, $ 50,000. City Attorney almost $ 185,000 etc, etc, etc. Start at the top. The City Council makes a $1,000 a month and has full medical benefits but only works part time !!! Have you ever had a part time Job with full Medical Benefits ???
Get your head out of the sand
Brian Uhler is a good man, but I don’t think he can do both jobs to the City Mgr.s expectations. He will be doing 6 times the work of the City Mgr. and for a little more than half of the salary.
