Updated Sept. 1: The safe is now scheduled to be open Sept. 13.

By KCRA-TV

A hidden safe found during the remodeling of a casino in South Lake Tahoe will be opened next week.

The safe — found underneath a stairway at the old Bill’s Casino — may be linked to an unsolved murder of the former owner of the casino.

The current owner of the casino, Mike Laub, said crews are scheduled to crack the safe Sept. 5.

Laub told KCRA 3 last week that he thinks the safe may have belonged to Richard Chartrand, the owner of the former Barney’s Casino, which operated in the building for more than two decades.

This is all B.S. the reason they leave safes is, they are worthless, almost, so they are more expensive to move than their worth.

This safe will end up being another Geraldo Rivera type fiasco. I think this safe is empty.

Let’s support Mike Laub in hyping up this event. It can only bring attention to South Shore.

South Lake Tahoe sucks and so do the idiots who support it. Tahoe died when the 80’s left and the corruption of the 90’s entered. Down with the corrupt law enforcement, D.A.’s and Public Pretenders of South Lake Tahoe.

Yes its mysterious and does bring interest into South Tahoe area. Not ALL of that is bad. Might even help find out who killed the prior owner. However for Sam Venhuizen, Hate Much ? if you do not like it here Leave.

My Morning Kids at Kahle Community Center from Zephyr Cove students think they will find many treasures such as: old coins, cash money, gold, casino chips, and maybe a skull. Regardless of what is found on Sept 5 all these kids want is part of the prize. Remember “Goonies”

This safe is a later model major that was made years after the guy was killed in the car bomb in 1968.
