El Dorado County controller releases retiree benefit information

image_pdfimage_print

El Dorado County Auditor-Controller Joe Harn on Friday announced that the list of county retirees receiving retirement benefits greater than $100,000 per year is available on the county’s website.

The county’s unfunded obligation to its retirees has become a major problem, Harn said.

In 1999 and 2000, the Board of Supervisors changed its contract with CalPERS. The changes provided significant increase in retirement benefits to employees and dramatically increased the county’s unfunded obligation to CalPERS. The county’s unfunded obligation to CalPERS is $264 million, according to the latest actuarial report available.

What’s with the Sheriff’s Dept. being so disproportionately favored in these mile high pensions? Spiking? And these were some of the people who approved the bogus “educational” degrees for colleagues. Where is the oversight?

People of California. Your ignorant liberal ways have led you here.

You followed trash and look where it got you.

A slave state where the private sector is slaves to the government ruling class of pigs.

It is not rocket science and it didn’t happen over night.

    Longest train wreck In history.

Liberalism kills and you are a dead state crawling.

America must learn from the liberal mess El Dorado and CA have created.

If you want freedom you must leave CA.

There will be violent riots this spring in cities like Sacramento.

Could even start this Fall as the state budget fraud come undone.

The libs know it’s coming – the black Congressional caucus is stiring it up all over the country. But slt people by in large are easily kept ignorant of most things and probably don’t know that.

Ignorance is bliss. But it’s still ignorant.

    The bliss is wearing off.

You will find that all Police and Fire Dept employees receive much larger Retirement Benefits than any other employees.
They should print all retirement salaries so you can see where the money is going.

It’s not disporportionately high that cops get $100k in retirement, many government employees do, its just that most cops earn over 100k while working so they will earn more in retirement. Remember the recently retired Parks and Rec Director Gary Moore? He gets over 100k yet in retirement but during his many years at parks and rec he didn’t earn very much, working part time, then working his way up to 50k, 65k etc., but the previous City Manager Jinkens raised Gary’s salary over 25 percent in the last few years giving him over $100k and then when he retired he got about 100% of his salary, doesn’t take much of a math wizard to figure 100% of 100k is well 100k for golfing, fishing, relaxing and kicking back at 55 years old and oh yeah, the 100% fully paid medical benefits for LIFE. Just saw the guy the other day, said he was having the time of his life. No regard to what its costing the taxpayer or his fellow employees.

This example is repeated over and over and over again. I don’t mind something reasonable for people retiring , but not retiring at 50 and 55 years old while we continue to work to pay for their benefits and pay for current emploeyees while the county and city go broke, none of those folks even care.

We’re now paying for people in retirement at the expense of people working, and more services being cut. Enough people.

Put the benefits to a vote of the people who pay for it and lets see what happens.
Ask me what the cap should be and I’ll vote for a max of 60% of their pay but know more than $75k ever and no retirement benefits until 60 years old, lets call that 60% @ 60 and start a california referendum. And if they get social security that should get deducted from their retirement, no double dipping from the taxpayers. All Employees should at least split the cost of retirement benefits. Don’t forget they get raises during retirement so their pay keeps going up.

They system is going to break, its just a matter of when.

Who will sign the petition? 60% and 60 and make it state law. I venture a guess it’ll pass and all the no votes would be coming from the employees. That ought to demonstrate where their loyalties really lie.

Why shouldn’t government employees be served and enriched at taxpayers guarantee. We all know how hard they work.
This collusion and conspiracy between employee unions and politicians (give me big pay, benefits, and a fat retirement at 50 or 55 and I will contribute mightily to your political campaign) is bankrupting government.
You social secutity types, who have contributed much more money to your retirement fund (social security) get the privilege of haveing to wait until 65 years or older to receive 1/4 or 1/3
of what government types get. Sounds more than fair to me. Not.

Sheriff Jeff Neves is ‘gifted’ with $189,816 a year in retirement and $184,989 for Kollar – with their 3% raises in retirement, it’ll become a $200k club before their done. That’s over $15,000 a month, come on folks! These “benefits” are costing us billions, while the employees contribute NOTHING. Whoever thought that would work?

Really folks. Now who is going to sign the petition ? http://www.FixPensionsFirst.com

With police and fire, one of the main problems is that so many of them get a step-up in grade and pay within a month or so of retirement. And the frequency of retiring on disability (generally not what you or I would call “disbled”) in those departments is extremely high. It is fraud, but it is also very much a part of how that system works.
Most of us recognize and appreciate how hard our police and firemen work. But there ARE percs that go with the job. How many of US are considered heroes for showing up at work every day? But we still are bound to resent being taken advantage of by those heroes.

As I stated before a “meet and confer session” to settle on wages and benefits between management and labor is nothing but a farce, since neither side is dealing with their own money. It is all taxpayer money not their own. Stands to reason the more management gives labor the more management will get following right behind. Private industry and labor at least one side is dealing with money out of their own pocket.

  13. Parker says - Posted: September 3, 2011

Tahoe Tessy and dogwoman, you said it! And to partially reiterate, I’ve had many retired govt. employees boast about how great they have it!

And I’m sure someone will post something along the lines of, “You’re all just jealous.” (Which is false and irrelevant) And/or “The retirees earn what they get.” (Very debatable) But it just needs to be clearly stated, We can’t afford these pensions!!

It would be one thing to read this if money wasn’t an issue. But government is crying poor and can’t perform its most basic functions, such as maintaining roads. And it’s always trying to squeeze more dough out of the taxpayer!

The bureaucracy and our elected officials have created a mess and they shouldn’t look to the taxpayer to bail them out!!

  14. Skibum says - Posted: September 3, 2011

The problem with salaries and benefits with regards to “Public Agency’s” is that everything is voted on behind closed doors with an elected board, by us I might add, and not made public until after the fact. These boards are friends with the workers and will cater to whats best for them and not the overall community. We live in a small town where we all know each other and have for over 30 years. Our kids grew up together and so did we. The problem lies with the elected officials, council members and local boards having the final decisions rather than the voters as we know how they/we would vote. This problem is not unique to us but it is compounded by the fact that we live in a small community. Our elected officials must take the high road and do what is right for the community as a whole.

Pub Works: just remember that it isn’t a “liberal mess.” El Dorado County has been a Republican county for as long as I can remember. Currently the county has 44% registered Republicans, 29% registered Democrats with a plethora of other parties/non-partisans making up the other 27%.

Its a mess, but you can’t blame liberals. Those in power of retirements, wages, etc, have long been from the other side.

Please ask Joe Harn how much pension he will receive when retired.
How much pension John Upton will or now receives.
Then look at what retreds Sweeney and Nutting will receive.
Then think about one or two term congress people receiving full pay for life.

    BTW-

This is not including free health insurance for the rest of their lives.

The cadalac plans. 20 k Per individual Annual premium type of plans in some cases.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that “additional” retirement benefit contract is not represented in these numbers.

    Ask Joe Harn.

    Thirtyyrlocal,

I don’t think the big part of the problem exists at the elected level.

You have a governmen stucture that is by far progressive liberals.

The pols are crocks on both parties though at least the repubs throw out their trash.

Problem Gov is deeper than just the elected you have a ruling class developed. Gonna hurt to fix it.

The financial problem is just that. It’s done. You can either un do it or you are toast. The odds of un doing the contracts. Low. Take years.

I’ll watch and see the outcome from somewhere else, NV now but who knows. Utah – Colorado – Texas – lots of choices.

This list is proof that for county government, there is no recession. Despite their false cries of “we’ve already cut to the bone”, reduced hours, and other bogus claims of fiscal crisis.

The cutting should start with these salaries and these bloated, spiked pensions.

What does a citizen, taxpayer do…simplify it…to a 5th grade level…shame on the voting public. Shame on Neves and Kollar they should be prosecuted if it were possible…for taking advantage of their constituents and the voting public. For faulting on their responsibility and not serving out their term, Neves! Shame on those whom find their retirement swan song at the expense of others! Do not pretend to be public servants. Shame on you. You are not an American.
