Hwy. 50 crews to work 12-hour shifts Friday, Saturday

With the weather forecast to change dramatically next week, Disney Construction crews are going to be spending more time on Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe.

This means more delays.

On Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 from 7am-7pm the eastbound and center lanes will be closed from Lyons Avenue to Trout Creek Bridge.

Caltrans does not expect delays to be more than 10 minute delays while grinding and paving operations continue.

While many have complained that the work should have been at night, that wasn’t always possible.

“Paving needs to occur during 55 degree weather and rising,” Caltrans spokeswoman Deanna Shoopman told Lake Tahoe News.

If you ride a bike ,take a real good look at the so called widen trail,You got be buzzed to believe it’s any larger than before.
I think old man WINTER going to catch them with their pants down,it doesn’t take 4 people BS-ING AND ONE PERSON HOLDING A SIGN TO SEE THE RAPID IMPROVMENTS AND TRAFFIC BACK UPS.
    “AMERICAN MILKING AT IT’S FINEST$$$$!”

Ndot just has a better system of getting things done, why? who knows!?

The tempory asplaht is so Crappy ,even a skateboarder would pass up the chance to ride, and that’s telling you something we all notice, but hell it’s black,it’s not cracking, oil, sand, put through a pug mill somewhere probably off the hill for cost measures.
If these highways stay in the temporary mode, you can bet the gutters will be full oil bleeding chunks of roadway.

So please, all you EPA frigging backers ,get out your damn cars take a hike and walk off some those over sized lard butts, and you won’t sink up the locals watering hole from not bathing before you go out to cash your check.

Chow….the BEACHES ARE TRULY EMEPTY,if YOU GET A CHANCE TO SKIP WORK,ENJOY YOUR HEARTS OUT.
THE SUN IS GOLDEN THIS TIME YEAR, LIKE THE LOCALS BODIES,KISSED BY MR. SUNSHINE,WAITING FOR THE WHITE TO RETURN!

    PS….EVERY CONSIDERED WORKING 24 -7?

Why would you schedule extra shifts on Friday & Saturday? Those days have the highest traffic volume.

Caltrans’ level of incompetency is scary. My source says 45 degrees is fine for paving. So that temp would have included most of the nights in September, and had they scheduled 24-7 crews, the project would have already been completed. Instead Caltrans will inconvenience all of our tourists this weekend, leaving them with a bad taste in their mouths. Thank you Caltrans for screwing Tahoe once again.

Well the real great thing is how they’re also working on our alternate route, Pioneer Trail! And if you have to get to the Y, they’re also working on Hwy. 50 out by there Airport. So good luck trying to get around it all! Good to know that with every possible route in and out of town, there’s a construction delay!

But the road is going to be great they say. Well someone posted on here that they plan to work on the road not just this Summer, but the next two as well?! What good is a road if they’re always working on it? Good to see our tax dollars at work!

The road work is incompetent every year. However, I would rather have better roads than not. Any local knows we only have two seasons, road work and winter.

The absolute three stooges or keystone kop routine that occurred at the road construction site out by the airport last Tuesday around 12:30 was the worst I have ever seen. There was an accident that brought several CalTrans trucks, several CHP, several fire trucks, a medic unit and several SLT Police cars. Then, after about 15 minutes of these folks on scene. Another SLT Police unit, code three, comes flying up the wrong direction, against traffic. All this for an event that already had plenty of responders on a road that was already stopped and congessted. Rediculous and unnecessary. Code three should be used in an emergency situation only. Not to pass traffic to rubberneck. More cops were NOT needed. And what the hell is the deal with a pilot car? Is CalTrans actually afraid the cars will get lost driving 100 yards? And, they use the largest, least-efficient truck they can find. At least they didn’t use contractors from Alabama this time. The reason it looks so confused is that the CalTrans guys are doing it themselves. Of course there are way too many workers. Cost is no objective.

    Rant concluded.

And why did the contract for the Echo Summit that included time limitations that worked so well not be used for all road construction projects. They always act as though winter arriving is a complete surprise. If they had just worked a couple of extra hours a day for the last few months, this weekend work would have been completely unnecessary. The impact on the economy of the town makes it worth the trouble to include provisions in the contract to avoid weekend work. But, again, who cares? This stuff drives locals crazy because the answers are so obvious.

    Rant finally concluded.
