I love Halloween. Giving extras to the wee ones dressed in costumes is almost magical. Remember the excitement of ringing a doorbell and receiving a treat from a stranger? It is one of the ways our children can experience a wholesome adventure of yesteryear. It is right up there with chocolate advent calendars for the month of December.

Pretending your not home when you realize you forgot to buy treats! Just kidding ;)

Carving pumpkins, and baking gingerbread pumpkin cookies with vanilla frosting, and raisin eyes.

Ahhh yes. Nothing is more fun than misdemeanor destruction of property. Be careful, you could get assault with a deadly weapon.
Back East we had Pumpkin Chunkin. Nothing beast seeing a modern trebuchet hurl a pumpkin 1000ft. Or a modern air cannon shoot one 5000ft.

    Favorite part of Halloween?

It used to be some of the Halloween parties I put together about 35 or 40 years ago. The first one was at Tahoe Paradise Park . Live music, free drink, and everyone in costumes . Man, what fun. I called it the “Freakers Ball”, named after a Shel Silverstein song that was popular at the time. Followed up the next year by renting the dining hall at Strawberry Lodge. That one we had two bands and basically took the entire place over. Again , we called it
“THE FREAKERS BALL”, which is now the name the promoters use for their gig up at stateline. We rented just about all the rooms at Strawberry so everyone could spend the night. A few small party’s at my house in the years following .
Now for many years I’m content to just decorate the front of the house and hand out candy to all the kids. Funny how age changes you! Have a Happy Halloween!

Dressing up with my kid’s! Going to a pumpkin patch in Apple Hill. The decorations, and of course the candy.
