RAOK: Teaching her daughter to give at an early age
Heather Cade is going skiing at Sierra-at-Tahoe because she is the latest winner of Lake Tahoe News’ Random Acts of Kindness promotion.
Maybe she’ll be giving the award to her daughter — after all, Mykenzie is the one who donated her old toys to be used by kids who don’t have as much as she has.
Random Acts of Kindness is Lake Tahoe News’ way to start off the year on a positive note by encouraging kindness. Local businesses are supplying the rewards.

Mu husband and I were walking to dinner, and came across an elderly man who had fallen in the street. We stayed with him, controlled the bleeding, until the ambulance arrived. Then, we quietly slipped away, unnoticed. Very rewarding experience.
A few years ago I was at raleys buying food for my daughters and I,and as usual i was tryig to add up everything as i go knowing my budget was pretty slim.Trying to get everything they needed to make them healthy lunches for school all week provided me no room for error.I was in line checking out and before you know it I had surpassed my limit!Embarrassed, I apologized to the cashier and the gentlemen behind me and explained i did not have enough money for everything and i would need to take a few things off and could not get the few items left in my cart as well.As I was trying to get all my money together I noticed the cashier kept scanning things through and emptying my cart! I said,No! I don’t think you understand I don’t have enough money to pay for all of this!The cashier informed me that the gentlemen behind me had told her to put everything through and that he would pay the difference. As i sit here and write this my eyes still well up (just as they did at that moment) at the thought of this strangers kindness.I could not believe this was actually happening.All i could get out of my mouth was a thank you which was not even close to the overwhelming sense of gratitude i was feeling, but that was all i could do,I felt almost paralyzed.I didn’t know how to react.As I left the store my watery eyes turned into streams of tears, into eventual balling as i was putting my groceries into my car.I watched as this man walked to his car expecting nothing in return and felt an overwhelming sense of love. I will never forget what that stranger did for me that day, as it was truly a random act of kindness.
