Snow cancels classes; roads a mess in Lake Tahoe Basin
Blizzard conditions this morning have forced schools in the Lake Tahoe Basin to call a snow day.
Closed for the day are:
• Lake Tahoe Unified School District
• Lake Tahoe Community College, including Child Development Center
• Douglas County schools at the lake
• Tahoe Truckee Unified School District
• Incline Village schools
• Sierra Nevada College.

Washoe County schools outside the basin are on a two-hour delay.
The heaviest snow on this Leap Day is expected through 10am. But another storm is on the heels of this one, so snow is likely to be falling through Thursday.
A winter storm warning remains in effect through noon March 1. Because strong winds are part of this system it will make driving hazardous. Expect whiteout conditions over mountain passes.
For road information, click on the state icons at the top of Lake Tahoe News’ home page. Highway 89 around Emerald Bay is closed.
According to the Sierra Avalanche Center, “A trend of increasing avalanche danger is expected to occur this afternoon through (Thursday).”

REMEMEBER THE DAYS WHEN KIDS WANTED TO BE SCHOOLED SO BAD, THEY WALK FOR MILES IN RAIN ,SNOW WITH PF FLYERS, A PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH FOR LUNCH AND THEY WERE GOOD AT THE 3 R’s.
NOW DAYS SOMEONE IN CLASS HAS GAS THEY CALL IT A DAY.WE DIDN’T HAVE PROBLEMS WITH LARD BUTTS,AND THEY LET YOU FIGHT AT SCHOOL YARD BEHIND THE DUMPSTERS.
NOW days got have a cop ,a nurse, a bus driver, a computer, A-CELL PHONE, and a limo get you there.EAT PURE SUGAR,SMOKE CIGS,ROLL A FEW IN THE CAR PARKING LOT,GO HOME LISTEN TO THE TV WHICH TEACHES THEM THE GOOD QUAILTIES OF LIFE BETTER THAN THE PAID HELP.
WISH WE ALL HAD IT THAT EASY.
This little bit of snow and they call a snow Day. Wow, Can’t believe it. We didn’t do that until it was at least 18 inches and snowing so hard you couldn’t see.
It’s is all for the safety of our overworked and underpaid bureaucrats. God forbid that they put themselves in any danger. Forget that the rest of the world puts themselves in danger every day. But, the bureaucrats must be protected above all else. It is the natural way of things and has been proven through a myriad of publicly funded studies that bureaucrats are far more important than anyone else.
