Legalize all drugs. It would cut down on gang activity, and thefts.

I agree with Bob. Legalize it and regulate it like alcohol. It will put criminals out of business, it will generate tax dollars and like alcohol. It will make it hard for minors to get. They’re isn’t a liquor store anywhere that will sell alcohol to a minor. A drug dealer doesn’t care. Tax on alcohol is crazy. Drugs are pure profit. Which makes selling them attractive. It’s already been proven, that prohibition doesn’t work. By the way. I don’t use alcohol or drugs.

anyone who has studied the ‘drug problem’ knows that the solution is total legalization…

Think about it, do you really think it will cut down on theft? You probably have not had your home ripped off by someone who needs drug money. I realize some drug users have jobs they hold down, but a majority can’t keep a job. Where do you think they will get their money to buy these legal drugs? There will also always be an adult somewhere that will buy it for a minor. It would be nice to have that tax money, though. Maybe they could put it too good use, like good drug treatment programs. I do realize that not all people that use drugs are addicts. I’m just tired of seeing all the hard core users here that spend most of their time loaded, ripping people off to get the money for drugs and in and out of jail like a revolving door.

read about the results of portugal’s legalization of drugs.

  6. Dogula says - Posted: March 28, 2012

It WILL cut down on thefts.
The only reason drugs are so expensive is because they’re illegal. Make them legal, take the black market element out and it’ll cost like a beer. And it rids the streets of gangs when there’s no money to be made.
Of course, what would we do with all the unemployed DEA agents?

my Son told me that if you picked out any
20 local youths age 20-30, 15 of them would be Herion Addicts

the problem is that people are miserable in there minds due to some drama and sin that has happened to them, usualy during there childhood

the only way to cure that, is thru the power of God and the forgiveness of sins

just ask anyone who has been cured

Who is attracted to drugs? Are kids who have hobbies and activities such as sports, music, art, etc., less likely to become involved with drugs. Are kids with good mentors also less likely? Is low self-esteem and a lack of empowerment over your own life also a factor for higher drug use? I guess I’d work on the user end and encourage programs that help kids (& adults) become empowered in life skills & engaged in interests, thereby feeling great about themselves, and in the end not caring to enter the drug world. Kudos to Drug Store Project for being a part of that equation.

If you need to do drugs in a place like this, beauty and so many activities available. The people in worse places are doomed.

What is the root problem? Why do people feel the need to check out? Though people drink alcohol to relax, so I can see that. Moderation. Legalize, and tax the heck out of them. Spend a portion of the taxes on education (especially youth), and treatment centers for those that are unable to moderate.

Really?? Could someone from one of the AIDS programs back up that statement?

    Very amazing…

I would say following the advice on this issue from many of the people in South Lake Tahoe would be a very stupid move…

There is a reason that SLT has a retched reputation and you don’t have to look to far to find it. ^

The best thing that caring parents can do for their kids would be to move them away from here.

“The best thing that caring parents can do for their kids would be to move them away from here.” (grass is always greener mentality)

Totally disagree! These issues have no geographic or even socio-economic boundaries. As a matter of fact sometimes these problems can be worse in higher income per capita communities (poor little rich kids). The key to keeping kids making positive life choices is parental involvement. My oldest is a perfect example and my youngest is growing up to be one, both Barton babies (being raised by single parent).

And I advocate legalization and control of marijuana, but not heavy duty drugs (coke, meth, heroin).

Stop selling tobacco and make all indoor and outdoor public areas in Tahoe non smoking. Smoking (freebasing nicotine) is 6 times more addictive and thousands of times more deadly than cocaine and heroin combined. Tobacco kills more people each year and destroys more lives than all illegal drugs, alcohol, car accidents, AIDS, and homicides COMBINED! Nicotine changes a child’s brain PERMANENTLY from the very first cigarette. Unfortunately, that means each person who even smokes for a short time will spend their entire life looking for that extra dopamine release in their brain… which as we all know, is why people drink in excess, do drugs, and are continually looking for something more than a beautiful landscape to make them “happy”. So sad. If Americans really think tobacco use is a “right”, I ask only this. Where in the constitution does it say people have the right to kill their friends, family members, and the people closest to them… as long as they do it with a miniature toxic waste dump on fire? Secondhand smoke KILLS over 63,000 Americans each year. Over 1,000 Americans die in cigarette caused fires each year. How long will it take for everyone to understand the Surgeon General Report stating “There is no safe level of exposure to tobacco smoke”? It’s not like all the people who are sick and dying from tobacco related diseases are going to spend their last days suing an industry that makes billions of dollars each year from a product that KILLS when used as intended, right? Legal? I say no more so than any product that kills. Only one person died of e-coli and ALL spinach was recalled. Why is the tobacco industry above the law? Tobacco killed over 6 MILLION people last year world wide. Over 600,000 here in the U.S. alone. Over 1,000 Americans died last year in cigarette-caused fires. I say RECALL TOBACCO!
