Update: May 23, 2012, 9:50am:

South Lake Tahoe police this morning let Lake Tahoe News know the patron in the weekend bar fight is still alive.

Officers are not releasing exact medical conditions per federal law pertaining to medical confidentiality.

The name of the person has also not been released, nor have more details about the fight been disclosed, nor whether arrests are pending.

——

Two people were severely injured in a bar fight early Sunday morning.

When South Lake Tahoe police officers arrived at Mo’s Place at 12:36am May 20 they said they were told owner Mo Patel had been knocked unconscious by a customer who had been asked to leave. Patrons took things into their own hands, according to officers, and pummeled the unruly patron so badly that he was not breathing nor did he have a pulse when paramedics arrived.

Paramedics revived him. However, officers would not release that person’s name. They did say he is still hospitalized as of Monday afternoon.

A woman answering the phone at Mo’s on May 21 said Patel is not expected in for at least a week.

A lieutenant with the police department said details of the episode, how many people were involved and conditions of the victims are not being released. All that is known is both men were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital with “serious” injuries. The video from the brawl has also not been released.

At this time there have been no arrests.

Interesting difference between this preliminary reporting on LT News and the preliminary Tahoe Daily Tribune reporting. The Trib mentioned nothing about patrons being involved; but did say that the Police were investigating if unreasonable force was used by the bar’s security team. Other differences too.

No matter the situation no one has the right to beat a person until he is in a coma that is just wrong. Those who did this need to pay for what they have done. 16 on 1 is not patrons taking care of the owner it is a pure criminal act and I hope they all get charged with attempted murder. Who was the real animal that night?

vig i•lan te•ism One who takes or advocates the taking of law enforcement into one’s own hands is not always correct but these acts are committed swiftly upon the problem whom lacked conscience didn’t use sound judgment ,becoming the victim they SO violated .
No, it’s not fair but a judgment pasted on with not much remorse. Two wrongs don’t make a Right. This is a timeless court where the people action speaks louder than words.
I NEITHER SUPPORT OR CONDONE IT, IT’S A FACT OF LIFE THAT SEEMS TO NEVER DIE EVEN IN THE MODERN AGE.

I am not a supporter of fighting or violence, but it happens. What fascinates me is that decades ago, there were fights between men that were 1 on 1, and once a man was on the ground and could not defend themselves the fight was over.
What happened? It is really bizarre…
We need to go back to good old fashioned fisticuffs. I don’t know if that ever solved any problems, but at least the violence was dissipated in a more civilized manner. You don’t sucker punch a person, ever.

You don’t ever jump an unconscious person either! What makes these people any better than gang bangers? Worthless scumbags beating a guy on the ground! I can’t wait till you are all caught and charged with attempted murder! Video doesn’t lie! And you never know when some of the victim’s friends will be there looking for locals talking.

My mistress former profession as a court reporter, she did a lot of work for an attorney that represented a very large bar/nightclub. They were sued almost every month by somebody that had been beaten badly by the bouncers. We’re not talking about bruises here; we’re talking about broken noses, cracked ribs, broken arms, concussions, and worse. The defense always included this little gem: “This bar has four bouncers, and holds thousands of people. If the patrons don’t realize that we’re serious, we won’t be able to keep control.” This was used as an excuse for the bouncers to regularly grab some obnoxious drunk and “make an example of him” by dragging him outside and beating him into an unconscious bloody heap.

On the other hand, the majority of the bars I frequent don’t even have bouncers, unless you call the guys checking ID’s at the door to keep out the teenage girls “bouncers”. I’ve visited a lot of bars in a lot of towns, states, countries, and I’ve never actually seen a bouncer eject someone other than Lake-side Inn, Vexs At Harrah’s, Mount Blues meat dept. attraction.
People would probably be shocked that more females cause more problems and are asked to leave than males.
I’m also guessing that, in our litigious society, they have to basically tolerate a certain level of unpleasantness before tossing the customer out, much like a baseball umpire.
I reckon in a lot of cases, where the ejected punter is lawlessly drunk, they similarly wouldn’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to legal action.
Trespassing, burglary, assault, the list goes on for attorneys to take anyone money that wants to fight the disagreements, opinions, causes of said criticism, action, some bring upon themselves.

This incident was clearly an act of mob violence. Everyone knows that people often drink too much and get in fights at bars. That said, the crime certianly does not fit the crime in this case. It appears that a mob took an opportunity to beat a man nearly to death…..this act is completely unjustifiable. Shame on everyone of you who participiated in this horrific act, and may you receive the just punishment for your actions.

This story is heartbreaking- a lot of lives have been affected by the senseless acts done that night. Moe sorry about your busted jaw- kid who started it I hope you live and get justice against the multiple people who beat you to death outside and you had to be brought back to life by paramedics- shame on the same people beating you that wouldn’t let anyone come to your aid before the authorities showed up- If only they had one conscience between all of them this may have been solved already- but time tells and someone will, perhaps they will pick each other off one by one before then, then the world will be a bit safer. Peices of crap!

PS Release the video already, unless of course the criminals here are cops or something…
