Burglary suspect forces Sierra House to be on lockdown
Students and staff at Sierra House Elementary School had some unexpected excitement this last week of school.
The school was on lockdown Wednesday afternoon when a nearby resident saw an uninvited visitor in her home.
“We set up a perimeter around the house to contain the suspect, and called the school to have them lockdown until we could arrest the suspect,” El Dorado County sheriff’s Lt. Pete Van Arnum said.
A resident of Musgrave Court, which is a couple blocks from the South Lake Tahoe school that is on Marshall Trail, saw a man in her house going through drawers. She called deputies from a neighbor’s house.
Arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary was 39-year-old Brett Bartee.

39. He has done this before.
Be nice to have crime mapping in our city. If we can not afford more policing lets embrace new technologies.
If we could see with accuracy recent crimes on our block we would all take a little more pro active approach to fighting crime in out town. Our area of Gardner Mt has been hit over last few years and had I known so many incidents were going down I would not be as complacent.
I’ve had truck stolen, house burglarized (2010), bike taken from truck(2011) and gas taken in broad daylight this year. Yes,…. I have tightened security.
Old Tahoe days seem to be gone. At least a daily blog of incidents to help us realize we have issues with crime.
Better money spent than…say…… loop road.
There is a website that used to show crimes in the area as reported by the Sheriff: crimereports.com However, it has not been showing any crimes in SLT since mid-April. The website is still operating as it shows crimes in other cities, just not SLT anymore. I’m afraid we don’t hear most of what happens in our city/neighborhood…is it bad for tourism?! I agree, old Tahoe days seem to be gone. Sad.
This all went down right next to a house we are renting. Crazy to see so many police officers surround a house with rifles drawn. We saw at least 6 or 7 police and I would say they did a great job containing the situation.
