LANSING, Mich. — A Michigan lawmaker barred from speaking in the state House after she used the word “vagina” during a debate on an anti-abortion bill will participate in a performance of the Tony Award-winning play, “The Vagina Monologues,” on the state Capitol steps.

Michigan Democratic Party fundraiser Laura Hornshaw said Saturday in an email that Monday evening’s performance was planned in response to Rep. Lisa Brown not being allowed to speak on the House floor Thursday.

This article is really about abortion and the right to take innocent lives. This Fathers Day, I pray for all those in need of healing because of the holocaust of abortion in our nation, and the deaths of one third of all children since 1972.

    Gus,

If you don’t have a vagina yourself, I think you should keep all of your opinions about women’s reproductive choice to yourself.

  3. nature bats last says - Posted: June 17, 2012

And keep your penis to yourself too.

Phony christofascist moralists are really only “pro-birth”. Once you’re born you’re on your own and don’t expect any help from the type of society the Teapublicans have in mind.

Rose – more females than males are aborted in our country, who speaks for them? If you were born after Roe v Wade – you are a survivor.

Rose – more females than males are aborted in our country, who speaks for them? If you were born after Roe v Wade – you are a survivor. And no…I will not keep my opinion to myself, I have that right, at least for now. All that is required for evil to succeed is for good men and women to remain silent and do nothing.

Keep the consequences of your religion to yourself Gus and out of public policy. Unless we can tax your church because it wants to engage in political activity. I’m all for that.
Legal abortion has been linked to the decrease in crime in the 1980s.

Thingfish – what amazes me about liberals and pro aborts is how they love to silence anyone who does not agree with them. Now I ask, is that the mark of an open mind or the will of a tyrant? Liberalism is an oxymoron. Abortion stops a beating heart, abortion is death, and it is evil. Take away my church, take away my property, take away every possession I have or ever hope to have. I would rather have nothing than lose my soul.

    Gus,

You are so right, I find liberals to be the most intolerant people.

They also tend to be hateful and ignorant people too.

I also agree with you on abortion – I do not feel it is a woman’s right to murder an unborn child out of convenance.

How people justify that is beyond me.

  11. earl zitts says - Posted: June 18, 2012

I say liberals are very tolerant. Go screw yourself. Oops.
Rose, a rose by any other name smells just as sweet. Hang ups you made me laugh. Thing fish, is correct about a possible crime decrease because of the extensive use of abortion among Americans of African descent. A sad commentary.

  12. Gus says - Posted: June 19, 2012

So…liberals support abortion to kill-off minority populations? Disgusting. And just how many people of color support this party? Shameful.

  13. PubWorksTV says - Posted: June 19, 2012

Gus, It is difficult to understand how anyone supports the Democrat Party. The way I see it, It takes ignorance or a being an arrogant progressive liberal to be a Democrat

Time to move on or start writing something constructive.

Note each party’s national political conventions-The Republican Convention has both pro-choice and pro-life speakers! At the Dems’ only pro-choicers are allowed to speak! So which party again is the open-minded, tolerant party?

I point this out as someone who is actually pro-choice! But the shamelessness, intolerance and hypocrisy of all these supposedly ‘enlightened’ liberals never ceases to amaze me!

  16. PubWorksTV says - Posted: June 19, 2012

    Admin,

If you don’t like a point of view it is not constructive?

I am sick of liberals bashing conservatives and I’m giving it back.

Go ahead, censor me, just know from the start that is hitleresk.

What is constructive is to tell the whole story, both sides, the good the bad and the ugly. It is obvious to me and others for some time now that you are biased, not balanced.

  17. admin says - Posted: June 19, 2012

    Pub,

I’m sick of all the bashing — doesn’t matter who is doing it. I’ve been consistent with that. Your problem is you like to have the last word, well, not this time. And you don’t like to debate. You like to bash. You are a bully.

    Go play somewhere else.

    I’m done with you.

“Go ahead, censor me, just know from the start that is hitleresk”
Wow, Nazi imagery, coming from a conservative. A very poorly used metaphor at that.

Gus, I am not trying to silence your opinion. No church should be the sole source of input for public policy. Not yours, not the LDS, no Koran (all interpretations), not the Biblical fundamentalists, not the Calvinists, not the Pastafarians, etc.
    You can’t legislate morality.
You wouldn’t want someone else legislating a moral code that you don’t agree with wouldn’t be acceptable.
I am not a supporter of moral relativism, but some aspects of morality are relative.
And if your church wants to lobby for a policy based on it’s book, play like everyone else and pay your taxes.
Your book isn’t the answer. Just like that other book you that you don’t agree with (that is based on the oldest parts of your book but ended with a different prophet), doesn’t have an answer that you like.
Name one functional, ethical, Theocracy, now or in history.
You want a society where everyone follow your made up book? Great, go join a community like that tor make one yourself, and apply those rules to everyone who believes in your Angry Loon-loon in the sky. Do whatever you want within that group of consenting people. Keep it to yourself. Don’t like abortions? Don’t have one. Think homosexual sex is immoral? Good for you! Just keep yourself from laying with other men, and you are good to go in the eyes of Angy Loon-loon.
And your rights to use your book end once you start talking to people outside of your cult.
Freedom of religion to me, means that I am free from *your* religion.
    Get it?

    God is dead.

Ms. Admin, you posted this article. What did you expect? The abortion debate has lacked common sense from either side for the last 40 years. It always devolves into “I’m right and you’re stupid” bashing from both sides. You should have known better.

Explain your choice in posting this article, when this local story in Michigan nothing remotely to do with life here in SLT.

The actual issue that nobody bothered to address is the lost art of decorum. At my workplace, if I use language like the female Dem. rep., then I get fired, or at the very least have to answer to Human Resources regarding a sexual harrassment complaint. There are repercussions for using certain language. Had she used the F word, I’m guessing a similar censure would have been issued. We should expect our elected officials communicate like gentlemen & ladies.

That is what this article is REALLY about.

  21. thimesnv says - Posted: June 19, 2012

Dear Fish, you may want to re-read Gus’ comments. I didn’t interpret any of his words to say that his way (or his religion’s) is the only way. “Legislating morality” is done every day. Our lawmakers must balance the beliefs of Religion X, vs. Religion Y, vs. Non-sequitor groups. For example, all states have laws which restrict aduls from having sex with minors. The actual age varies from state to state, but in general, the populace agrees that at some point a person is too immature to make the decision about sex. Please don’t use leftist propaganda about “not legislating morality”. That is just not reality.

And by the way censorship is a common Fascist technique. It was obviously employed by the German Nazis. You were not permitted to have an opinion, your only choice was to follow orders from the Supreme Commander, or face the consequences. Thus anybody who attempts to “censor the opposition” is using the same technique. I don’t draw the conclusion that anyone who uses censorship is equal to Hitler, because his intent was obviously more sinister. But to deny that censorship has been wiped out of existence, even in a country that embraces freedom of speech, is ignorant.

A final question for you. I see you have an opinion as to where lawmakers SHOULD NOT go to obtain relevant information on right & wrong for legislative decisions. Well then, enlighten us, where SHOULD they go?
