Neighborhood meeting to fight crime in S. Tahoe

image_pdfimage_print

There will be a neighborhood crime meeting Aug. 22 at 6:30pm.

We have been hit with a lot of crime in South Lake Tahoe. Officer Angela Kallstrom will be having an informal meeting with neighbors to discuss crime problems.

Meet at the rear entrance to South Tahoe High School by the Mt. Tallac High parking lot at end of 13th Street.

This is first attempt at fighting back at crime and a effort to get crime mapping here on the South Shore. We need to be better informed of all incidents in our town.

Thanks to Police Chief Brian Uhler, Lt. Brian Williams and Officer Angela Kallstrom to help inform us.

This is informal and any and all help to raise awareness of neighborhood crime is appreciated.

The goal is to inform. My goal is to have police incident reports posted somewhere where we can read daily. We will all be surprised how much crime goes on around us.

Block party time? I need input from other neighbors.

When is Alberzozzi? going to get the gang wrting off the ACE hardware sign at the Y. At one of the community meetings he said this was priority. Its been there for weeks. You need to wipe out tagging within 24 hrs to have any chance of stopping or slowing it down. Any comments Bob?

Crime mapping is needed. The more people I talk to, the more incidents I hear of. Any body have input on crime mapping web site? It would help to know daily how much crime is going down.
If you have incidents to report try:
    http://www.facebook.com/gardnermtncrime.lee
It is a hastily done page to gather crime incidents. We need to know what is happening to neighbors on a daily basis.
Any input or help is needed. See you wednesday.

I’ve seen crime mapping posted in the local news reports, both print and online.
A report provided to Lake Tahoe News and the Tribune should reach everyone.

Also it would be nice to have a website for where tagging has occured so it can be eradicated asap.

Yes, Bob. I agree. We need a website for crime mapping.
Please come to meeting. I have painted over graffiti here just last week. I have personally observed two different Vandals in last three weeks. We need to hold our ground and share all this info.

Good luck,I tired more than a dozen times to get a neighborhood watch, the police dept. was happy to hear this,No one would join, because they didn’t want see the problems , witness such doing.

Just before July 4-th my neighbors property was robbed, lot family air-looms,tools ,things one can’t replace, went right up couple house, they beat the door in with a sledge hammer, you could hear this unreal at 9.20 right before dusk,I went looked twice but because of the large trees they could hide when I opened my door.
I saw two males running into a house couple doors up,I know they did this, but being there’s 10 people I could not say which the 10 did it.They put more patrols in the area for few weeks, these people are still walking around free, the law works in strange ways.
But to all the close by residents know this house as a troubled house, couches in front yard, trash,Rv people living in them in the yard.
Does no good to complain to the owner who lives in the keys as he worst than them.

IT REALLY HELPS IF YOUR NEIGHBORS GET INVOLVED ON THE SMALL SCALE,BACK EACH OTHER UP.

neighborhood watch is a great thing if you have respect for your neighbors or visa/versa. Our neighborhood has way too many wierd vibes. Im sure several of the “neighbors” wouldnt want to have the cops come snooping around and possibly find their pot crop. we also have so many dog/bad owners issues in our neighborhood that the animal control folks could be here every day dealing with that issue alone. I tried to take care of one of the dog problems which ended up with my home vandalized by the dog owner throwing a 5 gal bucket of their dogs crap in my yard. There are young kids that drive recklessly, people with 10 vehicles that block the cross street view and I personally have had several close calls with near collisions. That house owner just moves the cars around so they look like they are used. One house has a firewood business operating out of the frontyard and about 8 cord of wood about 10 feet from my property line (its supposto be 30′ from any structure, Not!). There seems to be very little enforcement of city neighborhood laws.
The guy over the back fence is a wife abuser, is on medication and has guns. I know he will loose it someday. I just hope im not home when it happens.
neighborhood crime is alive and well here in south lake tahoe. I cant even imagine having a neighborhood gathering/group to work together here where I live. there are about three or four families that I would feel even care about these issues.

Nature bats last. i agree, a lot of people i’ve talked to are into avoiding police contact. Most people want to do right thing, peer pressure helps those who have not committed to doing right.. Spectators will always be there, participants will lead the way.

We need to hear more like chief slowroller had to say, incidents of where, when, what and who.
If i could see a map of of thefts, burglaries, tagging, etc. I could see patterns of crime.
We do have a small town and we all more connected than we realize. Watch your neighbors back. Hopefully we can get a few voices heard wednesday the 22nd @ 6:30 end of 13th st. Share your input of crimes.

For a couple of years the website
http://www.crimereports.com used to list the crimes in our area. Suddenly in April it stopped and now only lists registered sex offenders. However, it still lists crimes for other communities. I heard the site was in coordination with the local Sheriff Dept. I’ve been wondering why it suddenly ended. Sometimes I get the feeling someone is wanting to keep the local crime activity quiet. Bad for tourism?! I personally know of some crimes that have occurred in the last few months and it was kept very hushed. Why?!

Sounds like your neighborhood is trying to work together on crime. Great team work. There were probably so many crimes there, they didn’t want it posted. I had an awful time there with crime and I was only a tourist trying to help your town with my time and cash. Thanks everyone for your posts and concerns about Tahoe Crime;keep up the team work. Great job you all must keep doing:)
