SLTFD station 2 will be closed next week
South Lake Tahoe Fire Chief Brian Uhler told Lake Tahoe News the temporary closure of station 2 will be from Aug. 27-31.
(LTN first reported about the possibility of this happening on Aug. 18.)
“(The) same number of actual people (will be) working on a day-to-day basis, just deploying them a little differently,” Uhler told Lake Tahoe News.
The change goes from 8am Aug. 27 to 5pm Aug. 31.
In an email he sent to staff that LTN obtained, Uhler writes, “During this time, I ask that you position the ladder truck at station 3 so any needed response will not require stopping and changing apparatus.”

Here we go. Stand by for longer response times at best and really long response times at the worst. The last busy week of summer before the Labor day weekend. The good – better staffing for the existing engines. The bad- using the unfortunate vehicle vs motorcycle accident yesterday as an example it would have depleted all of the city fire department resources for one incident. 2 engines and 2 medics.
If something goes really wrong remember a police chief with no fire experience made this call. He is putting public safety a risk!! Everyones home insurance will go up. Minutes count in response time.
Body: Beginning tomorrow August 27, South Lake Tahoe Fire Station 2
will be closing its doors. The station which serves the middle of town
will no longer be staffed. The personnel have been moved to station 3.
I find it interesting that the fire station is closing to sad money
when the new City Manager accepts a raise to be more in line with
other City Managers. I bet you our Police and Firefighters are no
where close to comparable to their counterparts. So when we are Closin
fire stations to save money, others are getting raises. Doesn’t sound
like the people of Souh Lake Tahoe are getting their money’s worth!
