Tahoe Keys homeowners’ board in disarray

Some time Sunday morning the Tahoe Keys Property Owners Association will be governed by a whole new group of people.

Five of the seven board members were recalled earlier this month.

Homeowners in this South Lake Tahoe enclave have until 5pm Aug. 31 to vote for a new board. Six people are on the ballot, with two write-ins qualifying. Jay Bushrow is the only current board member on the ballot.

However, Sam Pavone and Jim Siegfried, who were recalled, are also on the ballot.

Much of the lack of harmony among residents is tied to what people can do with docks. Between lawsuits, memorandums of understanding and accusatory letters the bottom line is Keys residents have to follow the rules of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency when it comes to docks. For now, that means no new ones will be built.

The people advocating for the recall believed too many property rights were being given up as rules were being created. The recall, according to information given to Lake Tahoe News, has cost the TKPOA approximately $6,000.

TKPOA General Manager Greg Feet did not return multiple phone calls.

Ballots will be counted at the annual homeowners’ meeting on Sept. 1 at 9am, with the announcement and appointment of directors the following morning at 9am.

I am from the TRPA and I am here to help.
We only force you to do what we know is right and proper and remember this is for your own good. Nothing is to extreme when it comes to protecting the god Tahoe even if the science is weak or lacking.

I believe only four board members were recalled. And the riff goes much deeper than just TRPA. Cronyism, double-dealing, and backstabbing are adjectives that come to mind.

True, TRPA is only part of the issue with the BOD’s that were recalled, the above adjectives speak well of the recalled.

It might get more frustrating or better, however you look at it. With the keys being built on the filter to the largest river entering Lake Tahoe, many if not most of those homes might not exist in a hundred years or so while trying to restore the filter.

Sometimes HOA’s are more negative than positive, not good for home values.

The Tahoe Keys is the worst thing to ever happen here in the basin. An enviromental disaster that should have never happened. The residents there should be grateful. Instead they behave like bickering children and are rapidly becoming the joke of the lake.

Earthquake and tsunami, thats all it will take and keys will be gone.In my youth I watched the trucks dumping fill to form the keys,a little shaking and that will turn to quicksand.

Time to pay the homeowners off and bulldoze the Keys. Nice thought but leagally and logistically a nightmare.

And I got negative feedback for my ’eminent domain and drain’ solution…

No Mike, the worst thing to ever happen to the basin (and the earth) was the advent of the creature man. So now you know how to solve this problem. Remove this scourge.

The Tahoe Keys recall occurred because the current board under the control of high priced lawyers had approved an agreement whereas TRPA would impose arbitrary regulations without any science or justification to our internal documents controlling the KEYS own boatdock regulations. Those regulations had been in effect for 40 years without a peep from the “great saviours of the lake”(TRPA). In that agm’t, a minor change in a dock would trigger a BMP requirment, a regulation that is even being discounted & downplayed by TRPA’S own director as more policy than science. They even mandated that fees be collected by Tahoe Keys and turned over to the rulers as other lackeys do, such as the city of slt.
