Opinion: Gary Johnson should be the next U.S. president

In the movie “Searching for Bobby Fisher” there is a moment where Joshua Waitzkin offers his opponent a draw. The opponent, looking at what he thinks is a tactically superior position spurns the offer, “why would I do that”. Joshua, having clearly seen his path to victory, replies, “You’ve already lost, you just don’t see it yet.”
I think there are very few who will see Gary Johnson as having won the current presidential race. For that matter, there are actually only a minority of people in this country who even know of his candidacy, including the owner/publisher of this e-newspaper. But Gary Johnson is the kind of guy who will find a way to surmount obstacles. This presidential candidate has climbed Mount Everest, so if you can find a bigger obstacle than that: Bring it on. Gary has a long history of achieving his aspirations.
I am most impressed by his business history. Gary started out as a one-man handyman business in college. He grew that business to over a thousand employees before deciding to go and do other things. Gary understands business, especially what we really need in this country, small business.
After selling the business he turned his hand to politics. He ran for governor of New Mexico. As governor, he took a state that had a serious budget deficit when he entered office, and by the time he was termed out eight years later left the state with approximately a billion dollars in its coffers. And he cut taxes 14 times.
But he’s not just an adventurer, businessman, politician — he’s a real thinker, too. And he thinks about things like: If this is the land of the free, why do we lock up more people than anyone else in the world? And why do we lock people up for drug use when it would make so much more sense to treat it as the medical/psychological/economic issue that it really is? Legalize marijuana, regulate it, tax it and top the drug wars. In fact, stop all the wars.

OK, sounds good, but he’ll never get elected? That is exactly where the title of this piece comes from. Because really, it’s “we the people” who are poised for an epic win. Gary has no corporate sponsor. When he becomes president, he really will be “the peoples president” because it really will be because of people like you and me who get him elected.
Gary needs to be in the debates. You can help put him there. Do we believe in fair play and the guy with the best ideas should win in this country or not? Help Gary get his chance to make his case for us on the presidential debate stage.

I don’t agree with anything Mitt Romney stands for in terms of government. I do agree with everything Gary Johnson stands for. I trust Gary. I don’t trust Romney. Romney is indebted to the banks who bankrolled his campaign. Every day people believe in and support Gary Johnson. The Republican Party and the RNC broke every law and rule in the book to keep Ron Paul from getting the nomination. If they hadn’t done that, Ron Paul would be the Republican nominee and Gary Johnson would not be running. But since they did break every rule and law related to elections and voting, in my book, their candidate, Mitt Romney, cannot be trusted to do what’s best for the country, only what’s good for the wealthy. The wealthy don’t need any help. The rest of America does. Gary Johnson represents the rest of America. We need to quit voting along party lines in this country and vote for the best man for the job. Without Ron Paul in the running, that best person for the job now is Gary Johnson. I vote for the person I believe to be the best man for the job, no matter what party they belong to. It makes no sense to me to vote for Romney so that Obama won’t be re-elected. I’m not voting for Obama. If he gets re-elected, that is because more people voted for him, if indeed we even have a vote in this country any more. Romney’s campaign was full of deceit, lies and dishonesty. I cannot support someone like that. I want an honest leader for once. Imagine how great America could be with a transparent government and a president who bases his decisions on what’s best for the country instead of himself. I’m voting for Gary Johnson for President of the United States. If every Ron Paul supporter does the same, you won’t have to worry about Obama or Romney.
Sharon, I hope you’ll enjoy having another 4 years of Obama. Because if you and every other Ron Paul and Gary Johnson supporter cast your votes for a third party, that’s exactly what we’ll get.

Between Obama and Romney, who really cares. They are two sides of the same coin.
Gary Johnson is probably not the best Libertarian candidate out there but with Ron Paul out of the picture GJ is all we got.

I side with both Obama 25% of the time & Romney about 50% (with serious concerns on the other 50%).
That’s not a lesser evil worth voting for, and which is the lesser evil anyway? I think Romney would have an easier time expanding the government than Obama.
I’m done with the D’s and the R’s, it’s time to fully support the L’s.

I think Johnson better represents California and Nevada’s liberty-oriented voters.
When I see a candidate that has zero chance, I see a person dedicated to a message going the distance. Selling the state capitol while being the governor is kinda questionable, be interesting most likely to see an evaluation on that. Gary was introduced to a crowd in the city of South Lake Tahoe at a forum for the last city council election, at least he showed up.
If you’re in a state that is already looking destined to vote red or blue, VOTE JOHNSON.
I’m in California and I was an Obama supporter. But he has let us down with drone strikes against American citizens abroad. He hesitated to shove civil liberties down the throat of the decrepit hawks who still think Russia is our #1 enemy. He tried to bargain with the racist coots in Congress instead of making his case to the American people for campaign finance reform and other initiatives. Women’s rights are more threatened than ever by hillbilly misogynist pandering.
I could never succumb to the perverse marriage of Ayn-Rand-Corporate-Tools-Pee-on-my-leg-and-tell-me-you’re-creating-jobs and Bible-Thumping-Let’s-Hate-Women-Gays-and-Brown-People.
The Repugs stopped being about personal liberty about 100 years ago. I don’t smoke weed, but I also don’t feel we should continue to pay taxes to support 25% of the world’s prisoners.
I don’t agree with Johnson on 100% of his platforms. But I agree with him more than any other candidate. Therefore he will best represent me.
