Thief takes off with South Lake Tahoe campaign signs
Late the night of Sept. 16 someone stole approximately 20 re-election campaign signs for Bruce Grego.
These signs were located at various points along Lake Tahoe Boulevard throughout the city limits. Most of the signs had been secured by wire rods pushed into the ground to support the signs, but at least one of the signs was pounded into the ground with wooden stakes.
Theft of political campaign signs is a local issue, and not mentioned in the California Elections Code. While the city code of South Lake Tahoe has no ordinance prohibiting the theft or vandalism of political campaign signs specifically, such actions still amount to a property crime and may be criminally prosecuted as such.
Time to look at the other campaign groups..they don’t want Bruce a champion of the Disabled and Seniors.
Just curious; were the signs in the public easement or were they on private property?
I get really tired of politicians just sticking their signs anywhere they want to, legal or not. Most of them don’t seem to care that there are laws about that.
And please, please, please take them down after the election. Some of them just litter the landscape for months afterward.
Hopefully someone was someone who thinks these signs are unsightly, unnecessary, and a blemish on the landscape. Why are politicians able to post their signs everywhere all over town, yet Burger King or Taco Bell cannot? Because the politicos make up the laws and rules that favor themselves.
No matter your beliefs, stealing signs is still wrong. Money is tight on a campaign, and its an unnecessary expense to need to replace signs. If you’ve ever run for office or had to put up signs you know you need permission to place signs, and there are many business and home owners that want to show their support by allowing the signs on their property.
Hope they catch the holligans.
Who do I thank for the removal of these signs?
Given the number of for lease signs around I was beginning to think Lease was running for office.
Local Yokle
It’s a good way to get the word out for Grego
Now if someone would steal the truck located between Black Bart and Al Tahoe on Pioneer Trl which has the Marathon sign on its bed I’d be really happy. What an eyesore! And it is illegal! The owner must be a buddy of the police dept to have not been removed by now.
I agree with Bob. That truck is a complete eyesore and has been there for months. Why is it allowed when businesses are told they cannot have signs on the side of the road?
Move that truck!!!
The truck is in the county not the city, on FS or STPUD land. just the facts.
I am pretty sure that’s not the county….
From election signs to the eye sore bill board on Pioneer.
Are either really unnecessary?
