Hands down, Heavenly. Hope to return in future years to such a huge and varied venue. The meadows and backcountry mountains can be easier on a budget though.

To just play? Washoe Meadows State Park The views are stunning and while not strenuous, you can snowshoe or cross country for several miles -in the open, in the trees and again the views are beautiful. It is a hidden gem that I wish even more people used.

When I was younger and the knees were still holding up, Heavenly Valley was THE best place to go.I eventually got into backcoutry skiing. Echo Rim, Dicks Lake, Luther summit, Carson Pass, Elephants Back, Meiss Meadows(the chutes and bowls off to the left of the meadow that surround Meiss are AWSOME!!),and so many other places.Beautiful places and depending on sun exposure, great snow! As a side note, if you go backcountry don’t do what I used to do…. skiing by myself with my dog. Don’t go alone!!! Always have at least one person skiing with you. You get hurt out there or have equipment break, your gonna need help.
When I was a kid we used to go sledding at the top of Ski Run, where the pavement ends. I was on my Flexi-Flyer carving turns and coming to a stop before the big log that had been placed sideways at the bottom of the hill to prevent people from sledding into traffic. That area was clear cut and used as a ski run many years ago.Gas powered rope tow from what I heard. The city put a stop to sledding there when they formed in 1965.
Nowadays my place to “play in the snow” is with a shovel in my hand or firing up the blower. Clearing the driveway and then helping the neighbors with theirs.
Maybe a little mellow cross country skiing this winter. We’ll see. Take Care, Old Long Skiis

Paige Meadows on the west shore is one of my favorite spots to play in the snow. Great place to snowshoe, cross county, take the dogs out, and enjoy the mountain scenery.

    Wow…that was beyond uncalled for.
Hey tuff guy behind a computer, say that to a lady in person and see what happens.

Your post calling me the C word is down. Time for you to take your dribble elsewhere.
