Lone South Tahoe pot club threatened with closure
By Kathryn Reed
Even though Tahoe Wellness Collective sought permits in October to renovate the facility to deal with the marijuana odor issue, South Lake Tahoe this week threatened the dispensary with closure.
Cody Bass, who runs the medical marijuana dispensary, said he has the contractors lined up and permits in hand. Bass told Lake Tahoe News he expects to have the remodel done by the end of the year.
What has the city upset is people continue to complain about the smell and this has been ongoing since TWC opened four years ago. While permits have not been required that entire time, now that they are all the rules must be followed – which includes running an odorless operation.
The notice given this week says Bass has 10 days to comply or he will be shutdown. He intends to appeal that notice. This buys him time to stay open and fix the problem until the council schedules a hearing. Ultimately it is up the the City Council now.
City Manager Nancy Kerry said she plans to meet with Bass on Friday.
Added to all of this is Bass was pulled over by a California Highway Patrol officer in October in Colusa County and subsequently arrested with allegedly 1.5 ounces of pot on him. The charges were possession of marijuana or hashish, possession for sale and driving with a suspended license.
If Bass were convicted of a felony, he could lose his permit to operated the dispensary per city regulations. Bass told Lake Tahoe News he does not believe a felony conviction is in his future.
Come on man…. just get one of the 4ft tall Can filters and recirculate the air inside. It’s really not that hard.
With the police chief resigning this week, maybe there is more to come in misjudgements related to the entire marajuana debacle.
The police chief has not resigned. It is a rumor going around town. He told Lake Tahoe News tonight that he is not even looking for another job.

Be Honest!
THERE'S NOT HARDLY ANY CRIME TO SPEAK OF COMPARED TO "THE BIG NASTY CITIES"…$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
“its good to be the Chief”!
By all means shut them down! That way the street drug dealers will have no competition from a safe, controlled, legit business that pays city licencing fees. I guess the powers that be in the city are closet proponents of having unregulated, unsafe, run of the mill street drug dealers dispensing medicinal marijuana as opposed to a controlled environment that keeps records of all it’s customers.
WAY TO GO CITY OF SLT! Just one more ball hit out of the park. (as in a FOUL BALL!)
The chief has not resigned yet…
I bank next door to the pot club and use the TV station for business…the smell is so horrible that you can’t even walk in the doors some days.
If all of these filters and remodeling were ready to go, why not address the issue when the complaints starting rolling in?
Those poor employees!
Thank you city for working on this!
The collectives were supposed to be for medicinal uses and not to be your neighborhood “legit” dealer. If this last one closes, what happens to all of the grow houses in town? They won’t have anyone to sell to at the “legit” level? Their tax free income of over $20,000/house will be gone? Personally, I hope so.
‘They won’t have anyone to sell to at the “legit” level? Their tax free income of over $20,000/house will be gone? Personally, I hope so.’
30 year, you were correct in your statement about not having anyone “legit” to sell to, but not so correct about losing their tax free income. They will just fly well below the radar and do business with less than savory street drug dealers, which from the general consensus of many posters here on these threads would seem a better alternative than a safe, regulated outlet!
Isn’t the majority of marijuana still sold illegally on the street? since the collectives only sell to the sick?
My understanding was that it wasn’t taxed, because it was medical? If it is taxed, at what rate?
