Tahoe Regional Planning Agency along with federal, state and local partners have launched an environmental newspaper entitled Tahoe In Depth, with the inaugural issue being mailed this week to every property owner in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

This free publication is designed to keep Lake Tahoe homeowners, residents and visitors abreast of the variety of activities taking place to protect and restore the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Funding and contributing partners include the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Nevada Division of State Lands and TRPA. Agencies contributing content to the publication include U.S. EPA, Bureau of Reclamation, Tahoe Resource Conservation District, Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Tahoe Conservancy and UC Cooperative Extension.

Free copies are available at Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and Explore Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City PUD and Tahoe City Visitors Information Center in Tahoe City, Tahoe Environmental Research Center and Incline Village/Crystal Bay Visitors Bureau in Incline Village. A PDF of the publication may be downloaded.

Why spend the money on mailing a copy to EVERY property owner. There is this new thing called email and the http://www…. Save the cost there are better ways to distribute information in this century.

Our hard earned dollars at work. I love paying taxes so that the government can tell me all the good things the do for my benefit.

So you people would rather have them not try to communicate with you at all? So then you can criticize them for not communicating well? Direct mail is still appropriate for certain situations. Did anyone else see that Google was sending direct mail about adwords? No one understand the internet better than Google. And google used direct mail…

HMMMM seems like people just want to complain.

Trpa and their newsletter are doing a great job communicating their agenda and their projects. Explicit detail where the hundreds of millions of dollars are being spent. They are a joke not because they are trying so hard by mailing me this glossy newsletter, but because their program and their newsletter are not addressing highway runoff. We would all stop laughing at these kind of things if they applied a little adaptive management for once

    strictly commercial:

Actually it’s the Region 6-Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board of the California State Water Resources Control Board that has jurisdiction regarding the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) mandates related to highway runoff and not the TRPA. Since this is beyond the TRPA’s scope of authority I would anticipate at this time that they would likely furnish reports on what very expensive actions the various Tahoe basin jurisdictions are taking or attempting to take to try to meet Lahontan’s mandate regarding highway runoff.

When perusing the on-line version of the inaugural “Tahoe In Depth” publication a dedication to the late Dennis Oliver who was the former Public Information Officer for TRPA appeared on page 2 and stated the following:

“Dennis was the public face for TRPA for many years and worked closely with Tahoe Basin agencies. He was a gifted writer who had a special passion for Lake Tahoe and worked tirelessly to tell its story. TRPA would like to thank all who contributed to Dennis’ Memorial Fund. Those contributions helped make Tahoe In Depth a reality.”

Looks as though this is being funded at least partially from contributions and not just from tax dollars. Personally I think providing more information is preferable to receiving less information, that way people wishing to be informed have that opportunity and thus can offer enlightened support or rebuttals should they choose.

Let’s hope TRPA times this publication to coincide with the latest, changeable version of BMP’s.

    two questions for strictly commercial.
    1) is you name a reference to a Frank Zappa album?
    2) are you a pipe club space monkey?

question number 1 is most important.

    thing fish and strictly commercial,
I got the Frank reference as soon as I saw those as your pseudydonym’s. Very good! I’ve been a Zappa fan for a very long time. I’ve got just about every album and then started buying the cds as back up when they became the new big thing. I like the vinyl the best. I’ll play some Frank today in your honor. Old Long Skiis
